pre-emptive strike: CPS2 Grey AVP board graphics glitch

I'm in the process of purchasing a cab that will come with Alien Vs Predator CPS2 board. From what the seller tells me, the game exhibits some graphical glitches at the top of the screen. I don't have any pics of it yet, and he stated that the cab doesn't reproduce the issue with any other board, just this AVP board.

Does anyone have a ballpark idea of what could be wrong with it? And if it's identifiable, is it easily fixed?

I'll try and get images as soon as I can. I know this isn't a ton of info to work with. I'm just trying to get a head start on this.

Failing 6264 RAM on the cart board... bad connections between the A and B boards... bad ROMs...

I was hoping you'd see this, lol.

The connection between a/b can probably be fixed easily by a reseat or something, I suppose. But what about the other stuff? Could that be fixed? If I do get this board, I might consider getting it phoenixed as well, so would that fix anything like this?

Phoenixing the board will not fix the graphics glitches you are seeing.

Unfortunately, like channelmanic says, without more info it could be a lot of things. I doubt you will be able to get much useful advice until you have the board in your hands and can see exactly what the corruption looks like.

I posted a repair log for an AVP board here : http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=227466

I've done quite a bit of work on Konami and Capcom boards with these types of problems. When you get some pictures I will see if I can help.

Brian.

If it's the 6264 RAMs it will show an error on the screen when doing the self tests on power up.

OK. Finally got the cab and board in my hands, and.... he was mistaken. No errors on POST, and the game runs flawlessly. Might have been a bad connection. So I guess this is fixed.

Now I have another question. The A board's test button is apparently broken off and flailing about inside the A board... how do I take an A board apart without damaging anything? I can't get the game into test mode to put it into free play :(

edit: nvm. Found the screws. Dur.

You're right. I discovered this to be the case. No free play option. :( oh well. I was able to drill out my lock and get to the coin mechs. Now to wire a coin button...

Seriously bet its the boards not seating correctly. In some cases you can just uncase the top board and retest it to make sure its all the way down.

Not sure what it was, but he couldn't reproduce the problem when he brought the cab to me, which is a good thing! lol. I was able to reproduce some graphical glitches, but only when I fiddled with the JAMMA harness. So I'm pretty sure he just had a bad connection. Other than that, the game is running sweet.
