I'm thinking of buying my first pin, but I have no idea what they're worth. A guy offered me a 1978 Cherry Bell machine (decent shape but non functioning, and I have no idea what is wrong) for $250. I figure I can maybe talk him down to 200. Anyone have any thoughts or feelings on this game?

I don't know anything about that particular machine but you may want to check for availability of the schematics/manual. Sonic was a European company and that makes it hard to find english paperwork sometimes.

Try calling Steve Young at The Pinball Resource if the seller doesn't have paperwork.

I don't know what they are worth, but a friend of mine has one that is supposedly HUO and definitely looks HUO. Do you like slower games from the 70's? You might be bored to tears with that game if you expect something even remotely like modern pinball. I wouldn't recommend an oddball brand like a Sonic either as far as repair and maintenance goes, get something more common. Check the marvin3m.com site to see if there is information on Sonic machines there.

I've found that people that complain about EM pinballs being slow or boring are playing one that isn't working properly. Yes EM's are slower than one of these newer pinball machines, But not boring or slow. Talk to most any EM pinball collector and the will tell the same thing. As for the sonic brand, if you know how to work on an EM you won't have any problems if the game is complete. Although I have no interest in the sonic brand simply because the Titles and rule sets seem week on most models.
