So I see this posting on CL for a Buck Hunter and Bowling something, and Im not interested. While studying the photos I could see part of a Pole Position II in the background. So I write back, not thinking much of it, "How about the Pole Position"? Well, long story short I finally talk the guy into selling it to me. Turns out it was a local operator, and this was the same PP I remember playing as a kid at the local Family Fun Center. It's in what I consider excellent condition, some parts of the cabinet are actually spotless. I've heard stories of people on here getting the original games from their childhood, but this is a first for me.

Now onto the questions. This game does'nt work at the present time. It has had a switcher added at some point, with the +5 going to the test points on the PCB. Also it still has an onboard battery that looks pretty nasty. My question is, what is the best way to go about repairing this one. My first thought was to rebuild the power brick, order two big blues and rebuild the AR boards. The monitor I'll just recap, as it comes on rather dim and I can just make out a checkerboard image. I'd like to get your opinion on how to get this thing running solid, Im sure some of you have rebuilt these in the past, and Im aware of how troublesome they can be.

There have been a few guys who've dumped the ARII's and put in their own audio amps from kits that mount directly to the back of the volume knob panel on the coin door, and I wouldn't hesitate for a second to send that board off to Dick Millikan and ask him to go through the board and do a "restore" on it.

I have a PPII and I'm dumping as much of the original electronics as I can. That stuff is notoriously unreliable even when it's been serviced.

Great find, though. Great cabinet.
