PPE - Gomez talks about TFs

OK, here's the new stuff I learned about Transformers at PPE!

-The crimson/violet trim on the LEs is going to have a deep metalic luster...like a car finish. Gomez seemed super happy with how it turned out, and said we're gonna be so happy with how it looks. This was great to hear, as I was worried it might be some bright candy color paint job like the blue Road Show legs or Shrek's green metal.

-He's really thought out the story and narrative of this game. He wanted the game to be all about the robots. Confirmed: Two rule sets. You pick your side, Autobot or Decepticon when you start. They're not the same rules w/ narrative swaps. He said, for instance, there might be a certain multiball in Decepticon mode that won't be in Autobot mode...he really wants you to play both versions to see what they offer. He explained why you would hit Optimus with the ball if you're an Autobot...he's training you! So, he'll be like "Show me what you've got!" ...but if you're a Decepticon, Megatron will say something like "Destroy Optimus Prime!" ...so the toys work with either narrative.'

-The whole deal with the QR codes wasn't completely explained, but it seems like they hold the key to 'unlocking' things in the game...maybe codes? Maybe hints? He said they're hidden all over, and the most important ones would be ORANGE....on the DMD. So - you'd get special QR codes for getting high scores or goals or whatnot. He said they'd hold on the DMD long enough so you can scan them w/ your phone.

-The upper playfield on the LE "transforms" ...that's all I got out of him on that one. Heh.

-He said we WILL see pics of the LE stuff before the game ships ...I was glad for that, as it was kinda lame that the first time we saw Tron LE was when people were opening the box.

-He said the music and sound package has all sorts of hidden goodies for old school Transformers fans...and also some inside pinball type gags that he says will crack us up.

-There is NO Shia LeBouf or any human actor stuff in the game...ALL robots.

-LOTS of custom voice, but unfortunately not Peter Cullen or Hugo Weaving...but - he assured me that the sound-alikes merge flawlessly with all the audio they pulled from the movies...and there are lots of characters in the game and lots of story...so I'm thinking it will be one of the best sound packages in a while...it won't just be "random movie clips" worked out to fit shots or modes...it'll be a lot of the robots talking and interacting with the player.

-All of the return ramps are flat layered plastics w/ art screened on them and laser cut patterns...that's why they look really cool! No usual molded ramps...gives the game a really unique look. The left ramp shot/return is a really cool looping design that he says has never been done before.

-He said he KNOWS how to make every toy in there do a full transformation, but it would be at the expense of everything else. :( Megatron will have 'animation' in the LE.

-OK, this is the one thing that bummed me out. The LE is ALL LED lighting...even the G.I. ...GAAAAAH! He said they're still experimenting with which LEDs they'll use...so, hopefully they'll figure out how to not make it look like shit with LEDs. Good news, the G.I. is still sockets...so, if I hate the LEDs, I can put regular bulbs in there.

Hmmm...that's all I'm remembering right now....but, all in all, Gomez is a really cool guy, amazingly talented (he showed a lot of great stuff from throughout his career), and has real vision for his projects. I'm more excited for Transformers than ever....I just think it's going to be a really killer game ...and I love that they're doing something really unconventional with the narrative and ruleset.

:)

Cool stuff, indeed. I am also bummed to hear about all LED lighting. Did he mention if they will be warm white LED's. I really HATE the way cool white looks.

There was a STTNG at PPE w/ cool white 1-LED flattops ...looked like shit. There was just no side light dispersal, so it made the game DARKER than it would be w/ regular lights

There was a CV with Super-brites..which was FUCKING BLINDING....and also in a weird way made the game DARKER...cuz the bright is SO bright it seems to make the dark areas more dark. Either way it was unpleasant.

Transformers needs warm whites, at least! The reds and purples will look better with it. Gomez seems very very involved and takes the looks of this game very seriously...so - I'm hoping they'll go with a "good" LED in terms of brightness and color.

The vids of the Tron LE look ok. Does it have LED GI? I haven't seen one in person. Are we talking LED flashers too?

Tron LE has LEDs in the inserts only...regular bulbs in GI...looks fine.

Gomez said Transformers will have regular 906 flashers...but colored purple and red flasher bulbs.

OK. Was just checking Stern's site and they have a pic of the LE version up. Possibly by mistake. The pic of the Ironhide ramp shows him straddling the ramp and facing forward. There is what appears to be a LED behind him. The Pro version shows Ironhide on the right side of the ramp facing the left.

Thanks for all the info Greg. I can't wait to see the LE. I'm thinking this is gonna be a great game.

I watched some of the video posted, and seeing him so excited towards the game and new technology is great.

I think they just changed his position ..but you might be right!

man....i want this pin badly, but i just can't come up with the scratch right now.

i thought about selling my body.........any takers? i smell nice and don't talk too much. :)

This is a HUGE negative for me.

Huge.

Well, wait and see then...I'm trusting they'll do a good job w/ it.

I think they did a great job w/ sound-alikes on Pirates (Jack Sparrow), Shrek (Shrek, Donkey, and Smashmouth), and Iron Man (JARVIS) ...lets hope Batman's voices were the lone fluke.

The Jarvis on IM was a sound a like? Fooled me.

No Shia Labuffoon. Thank God.
I wonder how much Peter Cullen was asking to do the voice work. Its not like it would take more than a few hours of his time. This could ruin the game for me if the voice is off too much.

The thing is, they're using tons of Peter Cullen and Hugo Weaving from the movie audio...so - the custom audio has to be seamless. Those voices have so much robot-reverb on them...as long as the sound-alikes are pretty damn close in inflection ...it should work out pretty well.

But yeah, you gotta wonder why he wouldn't do it...Gomez says Hasbro is 100% behind them, giving them any help they need....ILM gave them the CG Megatron files....he said Hasbro has a giant Optimus Prime statue in their lobby, and that the pinball game is going right next to it. So....yeah, you'd think Hasbro would cajole Cullen into participating. I wonder if they have an official soundalike for various talking Transformers products.
