OK...So I'm building a donkey kong out of a stripped DKJr. Cab. I'm going to be putting in a new wiring harness (I think from arcadeshop if I cant find another DK harness) but I believe it doesnt have power connections for the monitor.

With that being said, how do I power up the monitor? Is there a connector that I can use from the new power supply (switching) to the connection on the monitor?

I know, dumb newb questions but i generally dont mess with monitors...

Thanks!

if you are using the ez20 you have to use a 120 to 100v stepdown transformer, and you would have to split 120 off the main line before the switcher

I need to check and see which monitor it is...I'm dont have it right here...Where would I get a transformer for this if indeed it needs one?

Heh..... that's usually the ONE piece that is left in a stripped Nintendo cab.

Is there nothing in the bottom of the cabinet ?
Is there a set of outlets in the bottom of the cab ?

LOL. You are indeed correct and yes, there are outlets there...I'll need to see though if there is any wiring there to plug into the monitor...

if you're using a monitor that is not the Sanyo you'll need to jump off the 120v before the 100v stepdown. on my R-Type there was a nice 115v connector on the power block that i used for this, but i don't know what's in your cab.

then if you are using an older monitor that needs an isolation transformer (GO-7, K4600, K7000 etc.) you'll have to add one in line after the 120v split. if it's a newer monitor that doesn't need the isolation transformer you can wire straight to a connector for the monitor.

Hey Matt, yeah, I have a 'new' monitor for it...No burn and recapped...

Hopefully you have a video inverter to go along with it :)

As for power, just go ahead and wire up an isolation transformer - even if the monitor doesn't REQUIRE one, it won't hurt anything to use it.

Just remember, that if you plan to use a Sanyo, it'll need the proper 100v isolation transformer.

Jeez, yet another part I need???!!

Is this what I need? Why do I need it?

It looks like the IT is still in the cab and wired up. There is an outlet at the bottom of the cab that the IT flows into...Is that what I plug the monitor into?

If you don't use an EZ20 then you won't be able to use the 100V isolated power that's already there, and you'll have to deal with the video inversion (if you are going to use an original DK board, which it sounds like you are). Have you powered that monitor up yet? IIRC, the burn-in was fairly light... you probably wouldn't notice with the game on. If it's bad, then you can always do a tube swap.

If I'd known you didn't plan to use the monitor then I would have kept it, and you could have had the cab for free....

i would use the 20 EZ that it came with and save your self a bunch of crap...save the other one for the next project.. you can always fine a nice 20ez with no burn later to swap it out...i think we have come across about 20 or so in the last month alone:)

Yes, Appolo had several working ones at his barn sale for cheap and nobody even looked at them....

You need a video inverter when using a non-Nintendo monitor with a Nintendo game and vice versa. Nintendo games use inverted video signals - where a low signal means color full on, and a high signal means color off - exactly the opposite how other games work. The Sanyo monitor takes these signals natively.

Yes, that's what the Sanyo monitor is supposed to plug into. But if you're not using the Sanyo, then you need a different isolation transformer, since the Sanyo EZ20 runs on 100v, not 120v.

If at all possible, use the Sanyo EZ20 with a Nintendo game. Not only does the Sanyo have just about the best picture of all arcade monitors, but it works so nicely with Nintendo games. Almost as if they were made to go together. ;)

Problem is, I dont do cap kits...Just havent done it yet and am way too hard up for time right now to learn so I was going to try and throw a freshly capped monitor in there that I had...

Brian, 20 EZ's!!??? CMON MAN! hook a brother up!

I know I know. Between work, a 3 year old and a 4 week old, I'm lucky to have time to run to the bathroom let alone raid warehouses!

Thanks man.

BTW, the monitor i WAS going to put in it is a WG 19K7201
