I am restoring an NBA Jam cabinet and I just got my new power supply for it. The problem that I am having, though, is that I am color-blind and these wires that are in the machine do not match the colors of the wires in the manual. :(

I have attached a couple of pics of the wires and the power supply. I just need to know which wires go where. I am also fairly new at this and any help would be greatly appreciated. Also attached is a picture from the page in the manual that shows the power supply and wiring diagram. Thanks in advance!

This would be a good time to get an assistant. I can't really see where the ac wires come into the pic there. You should see about 2 wires form the transformers (big block type things) The wires from there should be about 120vac so CAUTION with them. The two 120vac wires go to the ac part of the switcer supply and that supplies voltage to it. After that then the assistant can help you with the colors.

The two wires from the AC are the two coming in from the left in the first picture.

They go to the 2 bottom terminals on the switcher in that pic. The other wires going to the fuses are probably the +5 volt, but recheck it to be shure. You can use your meter to be sure where they go.

EDIT: Make certain that power supply is set to 110v and not 220 as some are set that way. Usually a switch on the side somewhere.

Just for next time, do not remove the wires off the old one until the new one is there. transfer each wire to the right terminal one by one.

Now for a solution to your current problem.

Your going to have to get trace your wires down. A DVM meter would speed up the process.

Look for the jamma connector on your PCB board.

The 1st 4 wires are ground.
The 2nd 4 wires are Positive 5 volts.
The next 2 wires are Negative 5 volts.
The Last pair of wires are 12 volts.

you should run across the key in the connector ( slot in the board )

No power supply

This machine came with no power supply. I bought it for $40. It was missing the chassis and power supply. If it had had the power supply I would have most definitely switched the wires one at a time - if the power supply was even bad to start with.

Wow 40 for a NBA jam good deal..

Look at your main board.
Look for the large connector that plugs into the board.

The 1st 4 wires are ground.
The 2nd 4 wires are Positive 5 volts.
The next 2 wires are Negative 5 volts.
The Last pair of wires are 12 volts.

AC get plugged into the last two terminals on your power supply.

Follow the wires. If you can not use a DVM. to trace were the wires go too.

Thanks guys. I got the power supply working. I tested to see if my board works. I see lights on the board and can hear the sound. Also, all of the lighting on the coin doors work as well as the marquee. Looks like all I do need is the new chassis. Thanks again.

Yes, this was a great steal at $40! It's even the Tournament Edition board, too. Sometimes I really love Craigslist. Fingers crossed when I get the chassis in a few days!
