Power Play 150 power supply fix

Power Play 150 (150 watt) XT style computer power supply made for EM Direct. This has the A.M.O.A./JAMMA Molex output connectors. This power supply is sometimes found in Konami, Dynamo, and Neo Geo cabinets.

Symptom: No power up, appears dead.

Solution: Three resistors are bad (open circuit). Check & replace resistors R105 (330 k @ 1/2 watt), R106 (also 330 k @ 1/2 watt), and RW2 (100 ohms @ 2 watts).

Also, be sure to check the AC power input connector on the circuit board for signs of burning. Replace if needed.
 
FYI, the two switching transistors in this supply are the very common 2SC3039 which are also used in Peter Chou and other switching regulator power supplies designed for arcade game use.

Also inspect closely the solder pads of the two "dual diodes" (Schottkey) for broken traces at the legs of the diodes.

This power supply must have a load connected to the +5 volts output in order to power up properly.

Pictures of the "Power Play 150" XT style 150 watt power supply. Normally has a silver colored case, but I painted this one black to hide the rust.

AC output cable (feeds 120 volts AC out to the rest of the cabinet for isolation transformer and marquee light fixture) and DC output cable (feeds DC power to game board). Connector pinout label.

No r105 or r106

I got a bit of a problem here there is no resister are 105 or are 106 or the other one you mentioned. There's not a resistor greater than two digits. Also the fuse seems to have a bypass on it I've never seen this type of fuse bypass it does not look like something that has been Jerry rigged more of a pre-designed bypass.

Look at those four half watt resistors directly in front of transistors Q1 and Q2. One or two of them will probably be open circuit.

Your fuse looks like part of the fuseholder has come apart. You probably need to replace the fuseholder.
 
I checked all the resistor and all were good. There was a suggestion (at : http://antelopearcade.com/files/Ken's Korner/Power Play 150 Power Supply Repair Guide.pdf)

That the RW2 resistor might also be bad but mine was good.

SO replaced the fuse holder with a new one and things are better but not perfect.

Bench test reading are:
red 5.02 dc
white -5.04 dc
yellow 10.44 dc

So no 12 volts on my yellow wire from the power supply.
Any thoughts on how to increase it to 12?

(and for future troubleshooters. in order to bench test this girl I had to jumper brown to white and blue to black on the 4 pins AC switch plug. without jumpering it will show no voltage because it is not turned on) <-- see pic

The +12 volts on most switching regulator power supplies for arcade game usage is only approximate. This is because that voltage is just used to power the audio amplifier circuitry and 12 volt coin counter meters.

If you really want to boost the +12 volts, then recap the output section of the power supply.
