I finished up the south end utility poles today. I "halved" one pole lengthwise with a chainsaw so they would sit flush to the wall and also save room. I mounted them to the wall with small metal brackets.
The painted plywood you see behind the poles(near the top) were used to cover up the window-wells, which are framed, so I had no choice but to just screw in wood over the top(at least without going thru a ton of trouble). Curtains used to hang there.
Once again I used really old insulators and wooden threaded mounts. The crossbars are from an old truck bed. I hope to have another mural between these poles at some point.
Pic #1: Both poles finished. The camera flash always makes things look too bright. Its a lot better in person.
Pic #2: Old British railyard "danger" sign I added to one pole. There's a couple of things nailed into the pole to the left of the sign as well. Not sure what they are.
Pic #3: This pole I decided to make look like it got struck by lightning on the crossbar, burning it off. Makes for a cool effect, and I needed to keep that crossbar short so it wouldn't block the movie theater speaker.
Pic #4: Closeup of the lightning strike. I burned that area with my zippo, then let it sit outside for 24 hours before attaching it to the pole.
