I couldn't resist putting up more utility poles in my arcade! The west side(bigger side) has the 4 original poles. Now I am adding some to the east side. Since this side is smaller, I'm doing things a little different.
There was one more pole behind my house(100 yards or so) that was used as a marker/gathering place for emergency situations for employees that worked at the old turkey processing plant years ago. The current business gave me permission to cut it down.
I sawed it about 3/4 thru with a chainsaw, and then pushed it over with my payloader. I then sawed it into 4 pieces and hauled them up to my house with the payloader.
Pic #1: The pole as it stood before I cut it down.
Pic #2: My payloader and poles when I got them back up to my property.
Pic #3: Frontal view of the pole after I finished the entire process. I "quartered" it out lengthwise with a chainsaw so it would fit right against that corner wall, thus saving room. It also makes it invisible from the stairwell. I mounted the pole to the wall with a long woodscrew.
The crossbar is mounted to the pole with a short bracket I fabricated(wood screws). I drilled an inch and a quarter hole in the crossbar for the insulator mount. The insulator and mount are old and authentic. The crossbar is from an old truckbed. It tapers out from the wall instead of being flush, giving it better depth IMO. I decided to make just half of a crossbar so it wouldn't loom over the open part of the stairwell area.
Pic #4: Another shot of completed pole. In the corner you see one of my movie theater speakers mounted. More on those in an upcoming thread.
I have 3 more utility poles in the process of being erected.
More pics of all the utility poles here:
