Hi, I have a Ms. Pac-Man machine that has the ground lead cut off the power cable. I wanted to fix this but I have the question of should I replace the just the head or the existing cable? Or I have a spare computer power cable with all three leads, and could I just replace the entire cable instead?

I've used computer power cables on a few of my games, since I always have a bunch lying around. Even an 18AWG computer cable is usually rated for 10A, so it should be fine. A shiny new cable looks nicer and is probably safer too. Some of the original cords I've removed were pretty filthy and chewed up. You will need to replace whatever connector is on the 'game' end of the cable though.

Okay so how is the power cable hooked into the power supply? I couldn't find any pictures and don't want to turn the entire machine around just to find that out.

I have a cocktail table, so mine is easy to get to... but your cable should be attached to the wiring on the bottom of the cabinet near the power blocks.

It's no big deal to change it out. White, green and black wires. Should be the same in the computer power cable.

Mine was torn our and very badly spliced with an old extension cord. I just snipped the cord and attached the new one with wire nuts. Once you get a look in there, you''ll see that it will be a pretty quick fix.

The original connector was probably the Green/Black/White wires into a Molex connector. I never liked this setup (even with "strain relief" in the cab).

The only smart way (so sayeth I :) to connect a power cable to a cab is to install a socket in the cab (like the one you have on a PC power supply), and then use a PC power cord. If someone yanks on the cord, it pops out and your carefully restored power brick is none the worse off.

okay well for now I wired the original plug to a new cord with wire nuts, but I'll try to get a complete cord later. I tried that Bob Roberts website except I'm more into using paypal so I'll see about that. I probably just try wiring in a PC outlet as that'll just be easier for the future.
