When removing the power PCB to install the MCR adapter, can you also replace the 800 ton power brick with just a basic iso setup, or do you have to keep the original power brick in there for some reason?

Yeah leave it alone.. if soe some reason you had to go back youd be prtty pissed, and if you ever sold it most of us like games as original as possible so leaving the original brick in there is a good idea.

On my tron, i had enough room so that i was able to mount my new ps and arcadeshop adapter by hooking the adapter board behind my old pcr board then putting in two screws on the top. SOmple clean and easy to convert back, leaving all original parts unmolested( other then not bieng hooked up that is)

If it's a Tron you can take out the "Big Blue" cap assembly and leave the rest. Otherwise, just leave it.

It's for a Tapper, and I'm hoping to use the original. Its working condition is unknown and I just wanted to see if it was possible to do without it if need be.

How much of a hassle is it to rebuild the original if it's non-working? I'm assuming the necessary parts are available?

Two big caps and a transformer which can be found all over the place is all you should need to fix it. BTW, my journey machine came with the MCR conversion and though more reliable, i wasn't fond of the hacks that had to be made to the harness and i ended up switching it all back and using an unhacked journey harness for the restore.. Tapper, timber, journey, spy hunter, wacko, demolition derby and a few more all use the same power brick.

also, i believe some voltage from the suitcase goes to the mcr adapter. there is that 3 pin connector, can't remember what it does off the top of my head.

Yup, parts of it are still used and needed. You can't remove it (and still have a working game).
