Can anyone recommend a good powder coating shop in the Detroit metro area?
I need a few pieces coated...coin doors and the like. These are really holding up restoration progress for me.

I used a place in Chelsea. A mom-and-pop operation. They did well on some control panels, but I had some steel wheels done and they did a bad job. A year later they are rusting. I immediately had them redo one wheel but they wanted me to dismount all the wheel and bring them back so they could clear coat them. They just went very thin on the powder coat. It was argent silver which looks exactly like the sand blasted steel so I guess it may be understandable but dismounting all the tires and parking the car for a week is a bunch of trouble I was not willing to do. I thought maybe getting the one redone would fix it but a year later and they are all showing rust in areas they should not. I am not sure I will use them again, but they did well on the control panels. I can pass along the info if you want but I also want to see what everyone else in Southeast Michigan is using. Maybe I will make a change. I have an old oven I have to wire up then I will be doing my own small parts.

It's two hours from you, but I've dealt with this guy a few times. He's really good. I could pickup/drop off if he doesn't do mail in service. Just send them to me.

But I'm guessing you can find a place closer - Detroit should have a ton of shops.

I asked our ME at work who we use for prototypes. If you don't hear back from me by the end of the day, ping me to remind him.

I don't know anything about Detroit, but I'd recommend looking for a motorcycle customization shop. That's where I've had my powder coating done (you have a good example of it!). If it's a small part they can just throw it in with other stuff they're doing anyway and you should get a discount.
