I have about a dozen parts which had the powder coat over sprayed onto the threaded studs. I'm looking for an easy way to clean these up other than bead blasting them. I'd like to remove the PC from the studs and leave the rest of it alone.

I thought about using a thread die, but they're too large to fit into the clearance I have.... Maybe a Dremel with a wire brush, but it's really too labor intensive...

I use a power tube brush to clean out holes....is there anything like this for threaded studs? Somewhat like the tool used to clean copper pipes before soldering, but smaller and easily attached to a drill? Maybe there's a tool specifically made to clean up threads?

I really don't want to blast these and reshoot them if I don't HAVE to.

HELP

Thanks

Dave

A Thread chasing file sounds like what you need. Hard to find sometimes, but should work even if a bit labor intensive.

They also make chasing dies for cleaning up threads, but they can be expensive and can't always cut all the way down the threads.

Griots also makes a little gizmo called a thread restorer, sorta like a little pair of jaws that clamps around the bolt and repairs/cleans the threads.

Thread

Use a dremmel and cut 3 relief slots in a regular nut. Use that as a die. That way it will fit into the confined area. It is just cleaning threads, not making new ones.
