Re: LDP-1000A

I just acquired one of these behemoths and after a small amount of tinkering it came to life (the motor that rotates the disc was stuck after having be warehoused for a couple of decades, I presume). Is there still any interest in this model in this hobby? I realize there are only a couple of games that can use it and it is HUUUUUGE. I really don't have a need for it as a machine that would go in my personal arcade or home theater collection so I just wanted to gauge the market on them.

Thanks!

Edit: After messing with it for a while, I'm kind of attached to it and might keep it around a while for general LD watching, but I'd still like to know if it's of any interest anymore in the laser arcade community.

You are correct that several games use this player natively. Fortunately, some kits have been made to allow other players to be used. However, the purist still prefer to use the players the games came with natively, so if you wish to sell or trade it and are reasonable about the price/trade, then I am sure you will have no problems.

Personally, if you just want a player for your LDs, I would gladly trade you another working LD player.

BTW, yes I do own a couple of laserdisc games.

I have the Sony LDP-2000 for my American Laser Games multi-rom setup and it is fantastic. I believe the 1000A only works for Begas Battle and Cobra Command, so the market is much smaller for that player. Shipping LD players is expensive and risky. I have found out first hand that they normally do not make it in one piece.

How would you recommend shipping a player? I was planning on using a double wall box with foam around the outside of the player. Additionally I was going to cover the laser eye (I don't have the cap that originally came with this machine) and put some sort of material in the disc compartment to keep the parts from wiggling and jiggling too much. Oh, and there's the screw underneath that is supposed to be tightened before shipment.

The screw is very important. That is what locks the tracking mechanism down. If you don't do that you, are almost guarranteed that the laser head will be out of alignment after shipping, making the whole player into a doorstop.

Used in Bega's Battle and Cobra Command.....

AceJedi is allways looking for players too... Looks like Avidgeek beat him to it tho.
