Alright I'm just pissed. Ordered a bunch of PP2 parts from John/Vectorman and the USPS shattered the damn bezel. Box was full of peanuts and foam and said "FRAGILE" all over it.

It's really good that the USPS doesn't tell you who all handled a package along the way, because I'd be inclined to track every one of them down and kick their asses.

Now I have to figure out what to do with John and with the damn USPS, all because the USPS can't handle shit carefully, and that's one more original PP2 bezel gone. I'm sure Vectorman and I will make it work, but DAMMIT thanks so much USPS for making my "come home from work to open a box of arcade goodies" day a complete kick in the nuts.

EPIC MAIL FAIL... Sorry I know some clowns that work for the post office and I refuse to believe that ANYONE would hire these guys, yet alone the United States Government!

That does bite. I thought I might have to ship a monitor glass and was thinking the only way to do it safely would be to build a custom 'crate' made of 3/4" plywood with exterior reinforcements and then sandwich the glass inside in some thick foam.

Just out of curiosity, how was this packed? I have seen quite a few threads where these don't make the trip in one piece. It is sad.

It was packed in foam and peanuts. It really should have been wrapped in bubble wrap at least 4 times and in 2 directions then encased in a wood frame. There is no other way to keep these ass clowns from breaking it.

You guys are scaring me now. I have a front glass being shipped to me via USPS from FL. I'm praying it arrives here in one piece.

It surprisingly takes a lot of force to break these. When I tossed my Super Strike glass bezel, I set it in the garbage can and chucked a crowbar at it to break it, and it didnt break! I can only imagine how many games of volleyball are played with our packages. In fact, when I got a Centipede board return-to-sender'ed to me, not only did they not explain why, but they punched a hole in the box and it had a footprint on it.

Then you have no idea how incompetent our government is. I learned that the USPS sucks for fragile stuff when I mailed a good portion of my belongings to Hawaii when I moved there in 2005 as it was the cheapest way. It did not work out well... :(

I have broken these by accident in the past when I was taking them out to clean or working on a game. They are generally tempered glass which is pretty strong when it comes to impacts on the front/back of the glass but the edges are the weak points. Anytime I broke a glass it was because the edge got in a bind or was bumped and then one has a million pieces of crackling glass.

When I ship glass I use 3/4 inch styrofoam on both sides about 2 inches larger than the glass and tape it togheter real tight. Then I cover it with cardboard and take it to UPS. At least if UPS breaks it you get $100!

1) I have NEVER had anything shipped by me arrive broken, and I only use USPS.

2) Anything glass mailed by me get's double-boxed, with padding in the 1st box AND the 2nd box. It's more expensive, but it gets there in one piece.

3) Anything I can't replace EASILY (as in I have multiples) gets full insurance, especially breakable stuff.

4) I've had glass like this break just by holding it (not bumping anything). And I've seen these break from severe cold or severe heat. Sometimes they break from nothing anyone did. If the box wasn't damaged, then the item wasn't packaged good enough, despite how it looks.

5) Sorry, it sucks that it happened, but it could've happened via UPS, FedEx, etc. Always a risk when shipping glass....

+1.

Glass should be double boxed. It does cost more but the package makes it in one piece.

You must mark the box fragile AND insure the package. If you insure the package they take much better care of it. They could care less if its marked fragile, it doesnt cost anything to mark it as fragile and they are not any more liable for it. If its insured they will handle it more carefully to avoid a claim which can cost them money.

I used to deliver patio furniture. We would have extra tempered glass tops that we were throwing out and we would try to break them in all kinds of fun ways. You don't need to hit the edge very hard to break it so make sure you put cardboard all the way around the edge.

I remember long ago when a friend locked his keys in his car. After an hour of trying to use a coat hanger, he decided to just break out one of the back quarter-windows and get a replacement the next day at the junkyard by his work.

He pulled out a huge wrench and said, "Stand back." He nailed the window as hard as he could and the wrench just bounced off. He hit it again. Nothing. He started banging away on the glass and it wouldn't break. I told him, "Let me try the coat hanger again." Five minutes later we got the door open and went on our way.

Two weeks later he shut his car door and that window shattered and fell out....

A wooden crate is really overkill and probably only viable for the most valuable of items.

Sandwiching the glass in styrofoam sheets, and then wrapping in cardboard makes it pretty sturdy. Put that package into a 2nd box with some other padding- paper, peanuts, corner protectors, more styrofoam makes it pretty secure. It doesn't add much weight, but the 2nd box absorbs the abuse.
