Hi guys,
Well now that my game projects are starting to wind down, its time to start playing some games. Crazy Climber is such an underrated fun game. One of my all time favorites. I'm gonna start playing this game for score and trying to improve my skills along the way. Hopefully I can entice a few of you to play along with me. Not sure how many crazy climber folks we have, hopefully we have enough crazy klov'ers to maintain a running top 5 (more if we have enough players)

For submission to be included on the hs table, I'd prefer you post a pic of your score (funner that way) but I will also take you at your word. At this time, Nichibitsu uprights, cocktail, Taito uprights, cabarets and Jamma conversions are fair game for inclusion. Ah what the heck, Mame, etc. if everyone wants it. Please also let us know what kind of machine or format you achieved it on.

Good luck and hope we can get a few of you guys playing this great classic regularly!

I'll get things started off, don't expect to hold the top spot for long, especially when kstillin posts his score.:

Mine is still in the Arcade Hospital, the Boards work now just have to fix the hacked up panel and apply some paint to the cab. Nice score buddy, great game!

Sounds good man. Get her back up, running in that sweet gameroom and post some scores. I'll be looking forward to it :)
Doh, just searched back and saw Kstillin put up a 600,300 score awhile back. I thought the best scores were in the 350k range...Ouch, I've certainly got alot of work ahead to try to catch up!

Are there anymore Crazy Climbers out there? The game is lots of fun, especially competing for score :)

I'm get awful nervous at the top of Building 1. I always seem to lose a man there for some reason :( Those dudes are dropping plants like mad up there and I always get taken out!

I'll give it a run on my CC cabaret and post a picture for you. Now that I know you can hold on for dear life when a bottle or plant hits you and still live, my score will improve. :D

I think you can also survive direct girder and dumbell hits under certain conditins as well (holding both joysticks down) Dunno if a falling sign is survivable..I've survived touching the electrical wires.. but unsure how many times you can touch before getting fried. I've also found myself in no man's land, where 1 hand has a grip, but there is no place to put your other hand (no window exists) so All I can do is wait for the window to close on my 1 good hand or get nailed by a bottle. Is there any escape from this?

Guaranteed survival within the first "x" amount of floors of a building doing that, occasionally you can survive higher floors doing that but usually not. I've always wanted Don Hodges to break down the code for this game as it seemed interesting to me with the girder/dumbell randomness, sign randomness (read: Building 4), etc.

Have to hang back and be patient a few floors earlier and move around a bit until you get a clear(ish) path. I streamed a bunch of games on my jtv channel last night and was just getting hammered with horrible spots, phantom deaths, bs window closings, and 4 girders all coming down my 2 wide climbing area, etc.

When climbing, do you guys like climbing up a single row of windows (narrow, conventional) or straddling 2 rows (wide stance, abstract)? Never occurred to me to climb wide, but after seeing a friend do it, can see many advantages to doing so if adept at it. I've gotta work on training my mind to climb that way.

Yes straddling and using 2 rows is faster. I try to do this when I am climbing. I need to note what scores I get. Not really watching it. I have arrived at the third building on several occasions. Usually I run out of extra guys near the top of "number 2."

I climb the single row method normally and use the wide method out of necessity at times, ie) if on a 2 wide column, with alternating open/closed windows setup you can bypass those only with the wide climb, you are obviously more prone to falling objects however and need to be quite adept at then switching back and forth between styles.

Main thing is to be prepared for what is coming at you.

With some exceptions, things are thrown your way in groups of 8 floors. Like this:
(all of this is building 2)
flowerpots (3 at a time) start at floor 18.
dodge/brace these for 24 floors (3 sets of 8)
at floor 42, girders/dumbbells fall 2 at a time
dodge these for 8 floors
then at 50, for 3 sets of 8 floors, girders 1 at a time
then 8 floors girders 2 at a time

count to 8
count to 8
count to 8

Here is everything on building 2. Be prepared.
If you fall/die after floor 12 or so, it will take it easier on you and some of the obstacles will be missing when you continue.

step note
16 girder hit will kill
18 flowerpots start (3X)
12 center section start 2wide
42 girders (2X)
50 girders (1X)
74 girders (2X)
82 bird
106 girders (2X)
114 girders stop
122 can hear sign
137 girders start (1X)
138 girders start (2X)
146 balloon appears
162 balloon leaves
178 girders stop
194 last regular step

I should really put a webpage together or something because you know what?
I LOVE this game!!

I don't know my top score (probably could be roughly guessed, since scoring is pretty much linear on this game), but I've made it to the falling sign on level 4 a few times (and always had bad luck with the sign, and always get there on my last man). Would that be around the 250K range? That seems about what I had.

Making it to the falling sign on level 4 and not getting past it is roughly 172-180K

hmm.. sounds like its time for you to play some more and post an official score. Can accept your word or a pic (preferred). Which kind of game do you play on?
