At CAX I met Josh a somewhat local guy that sells lots of parts and machines. He posted a crane type machine that is near new.

Namco Fishing Treasure 2002

It uses a rod, reel and hook that flips up to release the goods. Prizes can come in these fish clam shells.

random youtube video on it.

Pics of mine. It's huge and bigger than most single crane machines.

The kids were bad so I stole their toys and put it in the machine.

Halloween will be awesome with candy goodie bags in this thing set to freeplay We can automate Halloween!

It came out of Betson's showroom floor when they closed the South SF site. The coin meter shows less than 100 plays on it, but I doubt that freeplay is counted.

Pretty cool. When I get my dream gameroom, I definitely want a crane to go with. That and a phone booth and a jukebox and a change machine and a pool table. I hope I'm not forgetting something. Oh yeah, and several bar neon signs.

How does the hook work? Is it actually a hook and there is a hole in the plastic fish? I could not tell. Is it magnetic?

The single hook is spring loaded and when it drags the prize to the top. The machine pulls it even harder and this flips the hook up and releases the prize. I had to file and tune the shape of the hook to release string loops like the Charmander Pokemon shown.

other features of the machine:

* force feedback. When you "catch" something the rod and reel auto pull it in but they also shake and give the fish action.

* setting the play to multiple catches per the "time allowed for play" or "play till you win"

* display window on the top rafters of the machine.

The machine is huge so you can store quite a number of toys and prizes in there. This is more of a skill based game more than a crane cause you can control the swing and up/down motion of the hook with pretty fine tuned controls. It's possible with time to be able to catch onto small corners of objects and even the dimples of the clam shells.

The other thing I got yesterday

This empty Mopet Video Tugboat - for really nothing.

There's missing stuff obviously but most of the body is there and the CP. With a new monitor, a left over JAMMA harness and a patch/paint... this will look pretty good.

Those mini arcades at CAX got me wanting a mini for my 5 year old kits. I have some left over older Chinese X:1 boards but I can easily put in a JAMMA vert shooter into it. My Taito G-net board with Space Invaders Anniversary would look good in this.

Josh had already painted it black but should I restore it to it's original colors or just make it into a mini vert JAMMA cab?
