What would the symptoms of the wrong value pot be for volume control? Say the original was 10K and there is an 8K in there. Can that induce audio hum?

Sorry if this is very basic and stupid, I'm trying to figure out if an audio problem is board or wiring related, and I have no way to test the board in another cabinet.

Audio hum is caused by AC current ripple on the audio line. Sometimes you just need to add a ground wire from the power supply to the amplifier to make it go away.

If you put an 8k pot where a 10k pot should be, all that would really happen (if both were new) would be that you may not be able to turn the volume all the way down...

Thanks mod. That helps get me on the right track!
