I usually don't post a trade or price question here, but this one came from left field.. Met a guy that's got a Red Alert that was given to him in 1980-81 as a birthday gift from his mom's boyfriend. He was the corporate lawyer for GDI and as part of his payment they gave him a RA. Prolly around the time when they were blowing these out to help pay for Slither, the game that was supposed to be a huge hit :(

My centipede/millipede is very nice, new cpo and rebuilt trackball with new ball. All new paint in the front, sideart is near perfect. ARII has been rebuilt, a month or two ago by me. Also has a rebuilt chassis with new burn free tube.

The Red Alert is near perfect. Only issue is the red is missing from the graphics, could be a few easy fixes.. Has less than 1000 plays and looks like it was built yesterday. It's sat in the same gameroom since 1981.

I've played RA on mame, it's not a great game.. But it's also not like HUO games pop up that often. I've got a Burgertime that was sold to me as HUO but I've got nothing to back it up.. Might be cool to have two 1 owner games in my collection.

What do you guys think? Is it worth driving 2.5 hours one way to grab it and is it worth putting in my collection? Think anyone will play it? Heh.

I could just sell it, but from what I've seen it's a hard sell and doesn't get much coin. I've wanted to move out the multipede for a while now, so I was thinking this might be the perfect time. Hell, I'd rather trade the RA for something else then sell it..

I`d make the trade. Centipedes are everywhere !!! On a side note Red Alert was one of the 1st close-outs at the distributor $1295 brand new bitd. Close-out meaning price chopped in half in order to blow them out...

I don't know... If you ask me, a "really nice" Millipede w/ Multipede is worth a lot more than a "really nice" Red Alert. Yeah, the RAs don't come up nearly as often, but they're also not really sought after as well. Game play on RA is "meh" compared to the frantic & fun Centipede/Millipede combo. If you're getting it just because it's in nice condition and that's the only reason, I'd personally pass. It'd probably just sit in your gameroom unplayed for all time. I'd go after something you really want instead.

No, I'd take the Red Alert. Like someone else said Centipedes and Millipedes are eveywhere. A one-owner Red Alert won't come along again in your lifetime.

That's your best option. Trade Millipede for Red Alert. Hold RA and play for a bit then wait for the right trade to come along (or keep it). Red Alert has a following, and really it's sorta a neat. Early speech game with a heavy-handed Cold War theme and respectable game play. I've gotten some of my best arcade games via trade.

if you want it, get it. Trading a common game for a rare one is a no brainer. But if you don't really like the game, I would not do it.

Look at it as a a cash deal. Your multipede is probably worth $600. Do you think red alert is worth that? If you don't have a buyer for it, I would let it go.

Man.. If I could get $600 for the multipede I'd sell it tomorrow.. Prolly have more into it than that, but I didn't restore it to make money.. Sad thing is, I would have a tough time selling or trading it for $475.. Market sucks around here it seems..

The more I think about it, I'd trade it and use the RA for trade bait for a future deal.. But the few guys that I thought might have an interest in the game aren't.. Oh well, still have time to ponder..

Thanks for your input!

If you were trading for a quantum where maybe 100 people would want it, then its a good trade. Trading for red alert, You would be lucky to find 2. Now working a trade with those 2? Not a good plan..

Yeah, millipede for $600 would be a stretch. More like $400-$450 and add $50 for the kit. No body likes millipede cabinet. If it was a multipede in a centipede cab, then $600+.

My multipede is a restored centipede cab with the kit installed.. Just talking about trading 1 for 1.. $600+ for my game, really? Guess I under value it. Bonus.
