My Ms. Pac-Man machine monitor has some pretty severe burn in, and that got me thinking today. I have an old 19" Sony Trinitron tv with a good picture, can this be swapped into my machine? I haven't pulled a monitor out of a machine yet, so I'm not sure what's involved, but wanted to know if it's possible before I go and get the tv from a friend who has it now.

you measure the resistances across the yoke pins for horizontal deflection and vertical deflection. you do this both on your original tube and the donor one. if they're within the same range (VERY close) you can sometimes get away with keeping the TV's yoke... other times you have to swap the yokes and retain the convergence rings' positions.

the other half of the battle is making sure the neck sockets are the same. different manufacturers and tube types will use different connectors.

that being said, I don't think your Trinitron will be a good donor. I never hear much about people doing swaps with Sony stuff. lol :(

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll pick up the tv this weekend and see if I might happen to get lucky. If not, I guess it's time to go thrift store shopping.

You can always get or cut a piece of smoked plexiglass and put in over the screen and under the glass. My Ms Pac cocktail originally came this way from MidWay and it covers any burn right up!

Seriously? I'm looking at a cocktail that has burn-in, and that sounds easier than replacing the tube...

Ask your friend to take the back off the TV, and read you the tube number. It should start with 'A48' something. Post the number here and we'll let you know if it's worth trying to use that tube or not.
