I had a light ballast fail on my Tron. The one right in front of the control panel pulled it all out and checked everything. Bulb good started good 116v present. Metered the transformer open. 0 ohms. Swapped in another one I had from a different fixture. And we're back in business. Worked for about 2 hours. Now that light is dead and the light below it (the one above the coin door). Each fixture has a line filter on it, can these line filters fail and cause the transformer to go out? 3 transformer failures in a matter of 1 day seems odd to me. Granted these are all at least 40 years old now so could just be their time. I ordered 2 brand new ones and would like to see if I need to look deeper before swapping them out.

This machine has been in the same place running on the same power for the past year so I don't think it's a dirty power/ home wiring issue.

Did you replace the starter and bulb as well? I don't see how a bad EMI filter could cause a ballast to fail. They usually just open up when they go bad.

That was my thoughts as well. And starts replaced yes, Bulbs no.

where I work they were just replacing bulbs. and then like a week later the light would crap out again. I had to make it a point of emphasis that you replace the starter with the bulb. I effectively took over the light replacing duties, but they picked up on what I was suggesting finally at the end lol

I've done a number of fixture replacements there too. Gyruss required the most finesse because the cabinet on/off switch was built into the original fixture.
