hi guys i have a newb. question, can you interchange power boards and use a galaga power board in a gorf cabinet? are they the same supply or different power pinouts. i know they use the same transformer mt87.

It's been ages since I have seen a stock Galaga, but aren't these different power supply boards? Honestly, if you don't have a power supply for your Gorf, then do yourself a favor and buy the switcher kit and install that. With this method the game will be working while you are researching which original linear power supply to install in there.

My Wizard of Wor mini, which has the same set-up and PS as Gorf, has an original PS that died and was replaced by a switcher kit. The previous owner did this, but the game has been rock solid since.

from what i have been told, no you cannot put a Galaga PS board in a Gorf. the rack-system PCBs have a higher draw than the single PCB games.

i was working on a Midway PS board interchange list at one point but i've become sidetracked with projects; maybe it's time i get back on it.

Also, Gorf power supplies have a reset circuit for the motherboard....Galaga power supplies do not.

Correct me I'm wrong, but the Gorf switcher adaptor won't provide for the joystick and rank lights?

I bought the adaptor, then decided I wanted to rebuild the original p/s. I got the Bob Roberts kit for it, which isn't cheap due to the big capacitors, yet it's still cheaper than putting a switcher and adaptor in it.

I don't know about the joystick and lights. However, you could always split out the power as is done in Williams games with switchers (IE. lights run off the linear while game logic runs off the switcher). The whole set-up may run better at that point... YMMV
