So tonight I have been working tediously on the K6100 in my Tempest, installing the low voltage rebuild, frame transistor, and cap kit portions of my Bob Roberts deluxe kit. Heres the backstory.
After replacing the frame transistors, I decided to try the monitor out before I started anything else on the kit. My spot killer went away and I got a squiggly center that reacted to the gameplay. Sweet! Progress! I thought. So I double checked the transistors and found one I had accidentally shorted to ground, so I fixed that. Before I put the monitor back in, I doublechecked the other transistors and found 1 more to not be conducting at all when I metered the case to the chassis. So I fiddled with that until it worked, then I tried the monitor again and BOOM! Spot killer again. Shit!!
So then I rebuilt the LV portion of the deflection board and reflowed all the headers. Nothing.
Then I did a little research and found out how to measure the B+. So I did, and found that it was only at +58. Aha! Discovery! After adjusting the pot, I could only get it to hover around +80 or so. Thats when I glanced at the flyback and saw this little number. This is a cracked flyback isnt it? I have never blown a flyback before. When I turn out the lights, I see a faint spark inside that area.
Replacing my flyback will be the next step, huh?
