Ok dumb question of the day: Is Poplar wood strong enough for being corner braces in cabs? I'm rebuilding a Centipede cocktail from scratch and I need some 3/4" X 3/4" wood stock for the inside corner braces to hold the side panels together, and thus far the only stock I've been able to find precut to that dimension is Poplar.

Now granted I could always cut my own out of whatever stock I want, but it would be easier to start with wood ready to use.

Poplar is a good for woodworking. What I've seen at the hardware stores is milled very smooth. Should glue up very well also.

While we're on the topic, any suggestions for preventing the "glue and screw" method from popping away from the surface you are screwing to? Drilling pilot holes works as long as they are very large pilot holes.
