Hello,

I am working on a Popeye cocktail table game for a friend. I have experience working on pinball and video game boards, but this is my first attempt at repairing a monitor.

The monitor in question is a Sanyo 18-2AB, and I have used these forums Sanyo 20EZ posts for repair diagnosis and reference.

• Initial Power up:
Monitor displays nothing on screen, B+ voltage is 140 VDC and non-adjustable. Neck heater glows bright and then goes off.
Game play and sound are perfect---I am playing in the blind.

• First Repair attempt:
I replaced bad Current Limiter transistor Q901 with new one from Bob Roberts.

• Second power up:
Same results as first, Monitor displays nothing on screen, B+ voltage is 140 VDC and non-adjustable. Neck heater glows bright and then goes off.

• Second Repair attempt:
New Q901 was blown, so I replaced with another new one.
Also replaced these components:
B+ pot
LA5112N Regulator (from Twisty Wrist arcade)
B+ filter capacitor with a 470uf/200v (from Bob Roberts)

• Third power up:
B+ voltage is @ 108v and adjustable.
There is a Heater glow at neck, but is very dim---had to turn lights off to see it---don't know if this is normal?

Screen is still blank, but I can get a bright white dot in center if I turn up the large Screen pot on flyback all the way up. Backing it off even slightly and bright white dot is gone.
I am getting 15.5v at AB1 on signal control circuit board. (I think this should be 16v)
Game play and sound are still perfect----still playing in the blind.

This is where I am right now and not sure where to look next.

I do want to note, (unfortunately) that I made a rookie mistake from the get go. I plugged the monitor into 120v house current when it was on my work bench but I am assuming that since it was already going into HV Shut down that this hopefully did no damage.

I also have a Deluxe Cap Kit from BR but was waiting till I got something on the screen to re-cap chassis board.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
Gary

Waiting to recap? That should have been the first thing you did. Bad caps can cause blank screens too, and there is no sense it replacing other parts when you won't know if the caps are even good...

I guess I got a little too anxious.

I did a recap tonight and all is well, beautiful picture.

Thank you modessitt and this forum, I could not have accomplished my first monitor repair without all the input from this forum.
