Need some advice on these. Want to replace the old metal C style push and screw pop bumper lights with wedge. Original is solid metal legs. I don't care which one to use, but how the hell do you mount these in a bumper body? They have screws in the MIDDLE of the socket? What?

The original one I can't get tight enough to hold these LED bulbs I want to use. :|

Keep the bayonet original sockets. Those wedge base ones suck big time.

Two things you can do with the originals is to squeeze the circle of the socket closer with some pliers. That will make a good snug fit for the bayonet bulb's shell. The other thing is to look at the amount of solder on the center contact of the bulb's base. Quite frequently today bulb manufacturers never get a big enough glob of solder there to make a consistent contact with the socket. This also applies to the LED bulbs. The bulb makers scrimp on the amount of solder. I've had to build up a glob of solder on some bulbs over the years. Didn't matter who manufactured the bulb either.

They're all LEDs. I tried squeezing it together like you said but didn't really have an appropriate pair of pliers to get a good enough grip on it. Got 30 pairs of needlenose and no other pliers, lol...wouldn't budge.

But after rebuilding the bumper, it seems more stable than it was anyways so who knows. I'm gonna HAVE to go back in there anyways, I've got the other two pops to rebuild, and I see after doing this why there's insuation all over the pace by these wires.

Some stupid stupid things in this design....like had one hex screw nut anchoring to a 2-hole metal slip on the underside of the PF that served no other purpose than to be a solder point for two other wires...like come on...really?

I'm going to have to think things out very carefully when I get the new playfield. I'd like to eliminate clutter and all the hacks like that.

Needle nose pliers are too wimpy to squeeze the lamp socket. I use a common 6" slip joint pliers and it works great.

Yeah. Im a bit lacking in the tools dept. Kid is going in or tubes surgery on thursday which is going to cost me a bare minimum of 600-800$ so no new tools for me right now. :(
