So my aunt and uncle decide to buy a slate pool table. They contacted the local vending/amusement company and ask them if they would deliver it. They agree for a fee and so the pool table is suppose to be delivered Thursday sometime. The steps down into the basement were junk. So my uncle and I worked today on fixing them. (total time 2 hrs). The first test walk and the whole stair well starting shimmying lose. I was like WTF.. Here when we took the old ones off, the stair well came lose from the foundation.. needless to say I was laying at the bottom after the third step. Instead of taking the time to really fix it.. a few screws where it came lose and he says' that'll do! I pity the poor delivery guys walking down those steps with a 3 inch slate pool table! Their going to earn their money Thursday. :hail:

I can tell you are nervous for them - rightfully so. Please, let them know in advance what they are up against / let them evaluate it before they hump that thing over. Maybe they have workarounds (besides cancelling :) )- let us know.

If this isnt a lawsuit waiting to happen...

Yeah pretty much that's why I am thinking about going tomorrow with some tools and doing some reconstructing of the steps before Thursday. It just needs a few 2x4's reinforced against the foundation to sturdy it up. My uncle is an older guy who thinks you can do a lot for a little.. if that makes sense.

We do a lot of table installs and I will tell you if I were one of those guys and knew that I wouldn't step foot down those stairs with a piece of slate. Even if it was 3/4 non backed it would still hurt like hell falling on your head and crushing the hell out of you.

Also just a heads up; I've seen a lot of installs from vending companies and they are usually very lackluster. Yours may be an exception but most vending companies cannot even cover a coin op table correctly. We bought a few tables that came from a vending company that had been in business for 20+ years and their cloth covering was comical at best.

Make sure the seams on the slate are good and that the slate is shimmed properly.
