Poor Brightness on Hong Eun 29" Chassis- which caps to hit first?

I have a 29" Hong Eun Chassis (I believe these are common on Standard Crisis Zone cabinets- possibly a few others). The thing has some brightness issues- I'm having a rough time finding any kind of monitor schematics for these- by chance does anybody have an idea on which caps I should hit first? I don't have anything to measure them at the moment- so my options are (buy device, send chassis out for work, or replace caps here) unless I missed something.

Thanks for anything!

The chassis I have just pulled out says "Hong Eun" on it- doesn't look like any Wells I've seen. The model on the neck board is SP-29A. I have not seen inside many CZ cabs- but this looked stock- no splices, everything fit just right, no signs of rigging. If this was swapped in- it was expertly done- and it's been in this machine for many years.

That being said- maybe I goofed up somewhere?

I think those games came with D9200's and Neo-Tec's. The CZ's I've seen with poor brightness were bad tubes.

Is this a domestic version or Japanese? Is the gun blue or black?

The gun is blue, pretty sure the cab is domestic. I can adjust the brightness/contrast with the knobs- but the picture gets blurry the brighter it gets. I'm hoping it's just a simple fix.

Perhaps this entire monitor was swapped out- and someone did it the right way with re-using the molex adapters and such. I do know that in the schematics for the euro version the monitors are listed as 28" Han/Polos- so maybe there is some variation going on?

Can you take a picture of the deflection board (aka chassis) and post it here?

Hmm.. That looks like one of those universal replacement chassis. How about a picture of the tube on the frame from the back (so we can see the metal plate that this board mounts to). I'd be willing to bet its a Wells frame and tube and that your tube is bad.

But, if there is an electrolytic cap on the neck board you could start there.

this monitor is not caged- the chassis rests inside the cabinet on a little wooden pedestal. The tube is marked "Anam National" or something to that effect. No wells markings anywhere.

There is a cap on the neck board- 200V 10uf- going to hunt for one tomorrow- thanks for the helps up!

decided to hunt now. The chances of Radio shack having what I need is slim I imagine. Their website does not have 200V 10uf caps- I don't remember my local shack having them either. Mouser has them- but shipping will make it close to $10 (for one), and then there's the lot on eBay for 25 of them.

For some weird reason does someone want to sell me one cap? : )

Sorry for replying to an old thread, but was wondering if you ever found any more information on your monitor, I appear to have the same one in one of my Crisis zone machines and I am not getting anything on the screen or neck glow, but I think I can hear the HV not sure will be testing with a neon tube when I get back home. The model I have seems to be from Korea as all the stickers are in korean (besides the artwork and gameplay)and the old transformer in it says 220v input. I will be recapping soon anyways, but would like to find a schematic of this Hong Eun chassis or any more info someone may have on it.

I also wanted to add that this is a Hong Eun mp-29a monitor I could be wrong but it seems to be in at least some DDR machines as well (maybe only in europe/asia?) anyway hope that helps in diagnosis to someone looking for help with this monitor I am still on the hunt for the schematics.

I am pretty sure I never came across any schematics. If memory serves (it's been awhile)- I replaced a few caps and things got better- though I don't recall doing them all. Pretty hard monitor/chassis to find information on sadly.

replaced the caps in mine, I have no neck glow but I hear the HV. I have tested the tube on a BK tester and it tests fine. I have also re-soldered everything I could on the board to make sure it was not bad soldering. I guess my next steps is to start replacing resistors in the heater circuit.

Also Is there a good place to test the B+?
one side of the giant resistor perhaps?
