Pong's Knobs

Can someone confirm this dimension? It was missing. Also, I was thinking I would 3D print one of these and send to someone to validate my dimensions before making a bunch that aren't perfect. Anyone able to help on that?

Also, can anyone validate the depth of the pot hole? Is it a drill point at the bottom or flat bottom?

its about .043, hard to measure

sorry i had updated my original listing of dimensions to be more complete but the posts were lost

Thanks for sending that dimension. I think this is good to go now. Who can I send a 3D printed sample to before I have some made in aluminum? I'd like it if you have an original to compare to.

Once we get this verified, I will get a production run going.

Thanks!

And while I will likely never find one for a reasonable price, I've hoarded a few parts, and will probably be in for a set :)

Late 60s-70s sansui stereo had a nearly perfect replacement. I don't know the exact model but one of my knobs is from a sansui and you nearly cannot tell them apart. Although an old sansui can go for $350 these days so no longer a viable replacement.

looks awesome, nice job

not much for comparison considering I took those dimensions, but if you want a picture of one next to the original I could do that.

I could also potentially make them out of aluminum, I have access to a CNC lathe and mills, but free time to work on it is hard to come by these days... if you want to share the solid model you created that would shave off some of the work.

Oh, I should probably be clearer. I am planning to machine perfect reproductions from aluminum in volume. I am trying to validate the design with an original using these 3D printed parts before running a batch.

If you have access to an original, that would be fantastic! Even better, do you have a digital caliper just to double check dims? What about the ability to check set screw location and the underside dimensions for accuracy? I'll get you an aluminum set for the help.

sorry this thread keeps slipping my mind. I'll get caught up after work to see how I can help, but yes I have calipers and can verify some dims... I'm not sure I want to take mine off the pots to check the underside since I doubt they've ever been removed, but I guess i could for the cause.

Thats adds to the thought that the factory knobs changed at some point during production.

Almost certainly the case. Atari was a shoestring operation at that time and I'm sure they bought whatever they could get in any given month (look up how they bought monitors for Pong, it's a hoot).

EDIT: Necro-threaded again!

Really appreciate you taking some measurements! Love the idea of having super accurate reproductions of these knobs since it seems like people have struggled for a long time to find something suitable and that's part of the reason there are so many mismatched knobs out there.
