Pong's Knobs

Mine has the skirt-less aluminum design many people have posted, but I could believe the press on skirt theory as well.
My "original" knob is 1.125" diameter and 0.63" tall (smooth aluminum not knurled).

I'd be happy to loan one for reproduction (assuming we can agree it's original)....sign me up for 10

I have someone willing to send me this style:

But I would also really like to get one of these to verify if it's the same style with just a missing skirt. If they were truly different, I would consider making both styles. FWIW, this design looks best to me:

Beyond the knobs (mine are replacements) I have the control panel with the Microgram style font... if anyone makes repro correct knobs I would be down for a pair

looks like we lost a post with knob dimensions in the crash, is it possible to repost this ?

yeah a forum brain fart can sure take the wind out of a conversations sails...

I probably have to snap them again, also I was hoping Dude above would repost his diagnostic sleuthing about the staked skirt and everything

Here's Dude's post from 5/15 :

My theory is there was 2 designs. With and without a knurl but both having a skirt. I believe the skirt is a press fit and then staked on like these Alco knobs in the picture below:

The bottom of this Pong knob shows where I suspect it was staked (but probably not well enough hence them frequently missing them).

I agree, the reproduction should be 1 piece (as the only deviation from the original). You have an original knob with the skirt? Would you be willing to help with dimensions?

I'll have to pull one off to get accurate measurements (close to the panel and machine in a corner behind kids crap), and I'll add to this but here's what I grabbed on my lunch break:

diameters from the top down:
0.873 top bore
1.034 top lip
1.096 knurled section
1.016 undercut
1.568 skirt Ø

depths from the top:
0.059 top bore
0.091 top lip
0.636 skirt/undercut intersection
~.920 oal

heights:
≈.5ish knurled section
≈.081 undercut (length, axial)

sweet, how'd you dig that out?
and thanks

Fortunately I had email notifications turned on for this topic. Looking forward to this project!!

Can someone confirm this dimension? It was missing. Also, I was thinking I would 3D print one of these and send to someone to validate my dimensions before making a bunch that aren't perfect. Anyone able to help on that?

Also, can anyone validate the depth of the pot hole? Is it a drill point at the bottom or flat bottom?

All this talk about knobs is making me giggle.

any news or progress to report ? happy to send you my "non skirted" knob which I believe is original for a reference.

Mike
