yep, Polo in the showcase went out today, ironically when I was just telling all of KLOV about how I cap all the monitors on new games we get. :p

so I capped it, but observed a crack all along the side of the flyback (first time I've seen one physically damaged). am I in for a flyback AND the HOT? I don't have tools available where I'm at now to desolder the HOT to test it.

additionally, I have another 25" Polo that crapped out like 2 months ago, it lights up the fuse on the chassis when it's got power, and for some bizarre reason the fuse meters out good still. I don't think that one clicks though, but I didn't have it in a quiet setting either. I'm inclined to believe that caps/flyback/HOT can resolve that, but what else can fail in the power supply section that would make the fuse glow orange?

capped. HOT survived. replaced flyback with one off a scrap chassis.

it worked.

thanks for the help.

modessitt was right.

dude I know. lol
yeah, I got a new HOT from Happ (I had to go TO there yesterday) just to compare the numbers too and they were all spot on. mind you, this 33" chassis has never been molested before at all, it looked spotless. the PS cage actually has like a chrome-like appearance to it it's so nice looking lol. and the whole board is more orange than the burnt orange I'm used to seeing. as such though, all the caps were ORIGINAL. there was no signs of any flux in the solder joints at all. it was still in its manufactured state.

just so happened that when it was blacked out, and I decided to stop being an asshole and cap it that I realized the flyback had like a 2 inch crack along the side of it. all the dead/bad flybacks I've seen never actually cracked. it was also running in that condition for about 3 hours I think, I wasn't in that room that day.

I bought a Polo chassis from McGovern last week, and never got around to testing it raw on my 25" tube and apparently the flyback was good enough on it to work. that chassis is uber dirty though. lol rusted PS cage and all.

so, I need to order up a couple of flybacks from Bob now. I think I can trust the dirty one, just need to drop a new flyback in it, and for precaution I'll do the showcase one again too with a new one.

very strange story though, like you said, maybe they're not so bad after all. lol

resurrected the 2nd Polo chassis, just one little teensy weensy problem...

the H. Amp doesn't work at all, I've tried two remote boards on it (one known working) and the width coil didn't really adjust it out much. the picture cuts off on the left hand side, and there's probably an inch and a half of black bars on the sides.

I just capped this monitor. I tested the HOT that was in it against a brand new one and although it wasn't shorted at all, the values were a bit off (unlike that 33" Polo I fixed yesterday that all the values were almost exact).

there's a likelihood that I might've goofed somewhere during the cap kit, poor lighting conditions. I also desoldered a few spots trying to desolder caps, and maybe I missed redoing one of them. my flashlight's an LED one and all it does is friggin blind me and fully illuminate the solder joints to where I can't tell if they're all good or not, lol.

any ideas?

also, to note, I wasn't sure this flyback was good or not, so that's why I didn't install the new HOT in it. but apparently it is. maybe I should try replacing the HOT first, will that affect horizontal adjustment at all? or wouldn't it have just burned out if it was no good?

corrected dead horizontal width adjustment issue.
corrected blooming issue.

changed TP17 and TP18, changed diodes D134 and D135.
changed large caps in power supply section.

done.

thank you KLOV for the help.

yeah I got lucky to have a couple working ones off scrap chassis, I would like to replace them with new ones though. maybe do a new HOT on that 33" chassis as well for the hell of it.

I'm just glad to get them running again. showcase has Area 51 in it and it actually makes money, getting the KI2 going again was icing on the cake. I have a 3rd chassis I need to attempt to repair one day (the one I pulled from KI2), and another that has to go back to Chad. then I'll be good.
