POLL - Do I Pull The Trigger Or What?

D'oh, that didn't occur to me. Though I just checked the TV I offered him, and the yoke does not appear to be bonded. Yoke/rings are one unit with a screw clamp holding it to the tube.

So, perhaps finding one without a bonded yoke might not be that bad.

I am by far not an expert on the newer arcade monitors, but from fixing TV sets and computer monitors, I see lots of bonded yokes on stuff in the 2000's. I never really kept track of which brands used bonded and which did not though. Since TV's are so common, it usually isn't worth swapping tubes around, although I've done it.

From the little experience I have with newer monitors, I would just buy a new one. It is really hard to find documentation on them when they need work. Especially if the game is a keeper.

In the end do what ya have to ya dig...LOL But if ya find anything on my route to cali and back I can pick it up for you and get it to salt lake. good luck.

I know this is about keeping the game but a thought might be to sell it as us and take the money plus what you were going to pay for the monitor and shipping and find a good Rush 2049 and get the SE upgrade.

Just a thought.

I just talked to a local TV repair shop and the guy is going to look out for some tubes for me...might have some luck checking around locally for that.

Friz where are you located?

The guy I got my Rush from this week gave me another monitor of the same size. Think it needed a cap kit or something. He was just going to toss it but I took it off his hands. If your nearby you can have it.

Unsure of model but believe its a 25-27 inch with chassis etc.

Fritz you know if you lived closer I would sell you one of my Mutli syncs cheap. It does standard medium and high res.

But I know the beast of the monitor I got won't fit in your game.. No way no How.

37" of glass and 220 pounds is not something that can be easily stuffed into a cab laughs

OK... background:

Purchased a Rush The Rock at CAX. Somehow managed to break the next between CAX and where it currently resides. After some investigation I found that a semi-common 27" Sony TV has the exact same tube and yoke that I need, but, of course, none are anywhere near by.

There is a fellow KLOVian willing to ship me one he found "outside" but the screen has a couple scratches and it's surely not anywhere near "tested good". Shipping would come to $100-$120 or so...

There is one on EBAY in Los Angeles for $40 I am trying to work out getting from a guy... still looking at $150.00 for a TV that works... but I would need to swap the tube/yokes... no biggie... but getting the guy to respond and OK the sale has been difficult (his auction says PICK UP ONLY).

Finally... there is a resident KLOVian willing to sell me a brand new KORTEC Tri-Res 27" monitor (CGA/EGA/VGA) for $300 + ship... for a total of $425-$450. Now, this is more than what I paid for the whole freakin' game, but I am starting to actually consider this option. I suppose I could sell the Sharp Image chassis I have for some dough back... but I am not sure what I'd get for that.

What would you do? As expensive as it is, I am now starting to lean toward the new monitor... why? Well, it's new... but expensive.

Opinions?

Rush's are known for having ugly ass tubes. If you search around online and look at pictures, like half of these damn games have tubes that look like hell. They get all dingy and don't have good color after awhile.

The reason I mention this is because I would imagine since it's a tube problem, that even if you got a replacement tube out of a television, it's going to have the same damn problem. If you're planning on keeping the game for a long time, THAT monitor, with THAT tube looks like shit after awhile. At least that's been my experience.

So I'd bite the bullet if I were in your situation and put a different type of monitor in there. I hate the way those Rush's look with the washed out, dingy, one of the colors is weak looking monitors in them.

Good luck!

My good friend Fritz, I'd hide that green hulk in a corner and wait for a compatible tube (or complete monitor) to show up locally. Why? Cuz I am a savvy dude who doesn't need to play ANY particular game THAT bad.

Sage advice, patience will always win the day.

Do you have any other games that have a medium rez? Can you live with out that one for a while? Then swap the whole thing. Also Rush is such a common game, you might be able to find another one with some other problem.

if it were me, and i couldn't find a tube immedeately, i'd use a converter and drop a computer monitor in there in the meantime, while i kept my eye open for a tube or tv somewhat local.

So how did you break the monitor anyway? Way to go, Idaho. :)

I know I wouldn't go spending $500 for a monitor without giving it some time first. You could buy a couple Cruisin USA's for that probably. And like 10 Pole Position games!

Seriously, yes it's hard to wait. But something will turn up. There are some folks on here with money to burn so if that's the case then by all means fork out the cash for the nice one. But you may find some other options if you just wait it out a bit.

I wonder how that thing would look with a nice flat screen LCD....

EDIT: Oh I also meant to mention....we have a local electronics recycling place here that always has huge bins full of TV's that have been tossed out. Not sure if they have stuff like that around you or not but if they do it would be worth stopping in and taking a look around. Here they will sell you the stuff strictly by weight.

I'm anal when it comes to monitors...its the most important aspect of a game besides the controller and whether the game works. I can't stand burn in. If you've got the money, I say pick up the new monitor and enjoy playing your game asap..

Unfortunately I live in Idaho... willing to ship (on my dime of course)?

If so... there's yet another option.

:)

>sigh<

I'd do the new monitor YESTERDAY if it were local and I didn't have to cough up another $125-$150 for shipping.

Only one other... my Golden Tee Fore/Silver Strike cabinet... and that is the most popular cab in the 'cade...

:(

Thought about that too...

:D

I thought I broke the monitor when I dropped the cab about 6" when taking it out of the truck. I now have evidence pointing to the fact that the neck was broken PRIOR to my taking it out of the truck. That said, I know it worked when it was loaded up prior to CAX...

...and unfortunately I was a dumbass and did not check it at CAX (even though the seller offered to do so).

So the bottom line is that it broke somewhere between when it was loaded to go to CAX... though the transition from one truck to the other... to the point in time when I removed it from my truck.

The evidence I have that points me to the fact that it happened PRIOR to unloading is that I found more than one piece of the neck in places impossible to reach of the game is sitting in it's normal upright position. The only way those pieces made it to where they were was when I had the game sitting on it's backside (seat side down)... the pieces then fell through holes, etc toward the bezel and when I sat the game down...(at which point I dropped the damn thing maybe 6") those pieces were in the "bezel" area. If the tube broke during the drop, it would be impossible for the pieces to get to the bezel area...

SO... bottom line is... it's my problem. I'm pulling the old monitor today so we'll see what's up. The frame appears to be disconnected at the top where it meets the cross member that fits around the tube, but it doesn't look like there would be enough flex to break the tube... but who knows. The damn game was moved hundreds of miles.

Not that you need any more $0.02 but if it were me and I really wanted to play and the game was going to be a keeper and I had the disposable income at the time... I'd go for the new monitor. ;) But I'd also keep an eye out for a tube so I could try and fix the old one "eventually".

This is actually something I am seriously considering. I figure I could drop the new monitor in... take my time looking for a replacement tube... when I do, stick that monitor in then I have the new monitor to re-sell or use elsewhere (VGA game perhaps or even upgrade the MAME!)
