Police Trainer issue (1 gun works, other doesn't - doesn't matter which plugged where

Just got in a police trainer board to go in my Area 51 cab. The wiring between Police Trainer and Area 51 is the same confirmed by wiring diagrams. Area51 uses a big connector for guns (with useless inputs left blank), Police trainer just has 4 place connectors for guns.Either way they are the same as long as you plug the right 4 in.

After adjusting the flash brightness, player 1 gun works. Here's the weird part - no matter which input I plug the guns into, player 1 gun always works and p2 gun never does. I know both guns work because they work with Area51.

Any recommendations? I don't think Police trainer has a blank screen to see if P2 gun is tracking. Area51 does do that.

Any help would be appreciated.

Must be some problem with the player 2 gun connection on the board. Maybe a pull up resistor is messed up?

Usually circuits like this are pretty simple, if you look at the schematics, there won't be much between where it plugs in, and where the two guns 'combine' together in a chip or whatever... so it'll be something between where the two player gun plugs in, and where it meets the signal from the player 1 gun.

I need to clarify here I think. No matter which gun goes where on the pcb, the player 1 gun always works AS player 1. That seems...screwy to me. When I swap, the working gun should switch to the other gun.

Police trainer

Try going into setup and select restor factory settings. I thought there was a option in the gamed for one gun cabinet conversions.

There is no 1p option on the board...
In switch mode, the good gun trigger input does move from P1 to P2 when the plugs are swapped. I think there is an issue in a wiring quirk with the p2 gun.

Can a few of you look at the wiring diagrams for Police Trainer and dedicated Area51 and give me your input. Area51 uses an additional trig input on pin 7.

Bump. Can anyone explain to me the excess wiring for the Area51 guns? Access to the cabinet is not good, but as far as I can tell the p1 gun only has the expected 4 wires coming from the gun. P2 gun (the one that isn't working for police trainer but does for area51) looks to have more wires running from it.

Hard to find good help these days huh? I guess I'll just side burner this until I have time to completely disassemble the guns/wiring and figure it out.

Police Trainer Area 51 gun Pinout

There is an adapter available for the Different Optical Pistols. Take a look at the Happcontrols.com

For a look at the Pinout

Go to Bombjack.org
Manuals and Schematics
Click on the 25 Cent ARC block picture
Arcade Atari folder
Area 51 folder

Area 51 Max force Universal Kit Schematic.

You can see the Pin out of the Area 51 Gun.

sorry to necropost but did you have any luck with this? I think I bought your PCB on ebay.

I have traced the optic line to the first chip it encounters, a 14 pin IC that has the number TL74F32D on it, it seems obvious to me that the chip is damaged because the pin where the optic for gun 1 connects is shorted to ground and the pin that gun 2 connects to is not.

I would like to buy one of these to try to replace the one on the PCB but I am really whiffing on sourcing one.

anyone have advice where I could buy one of these suckers? Its the IC located at U119 on the Police Trainer PCB

Okay, so I have relaxed my query to 74F32D and found some for sale at utsource.net > http://www.utsource.net/ic-datasheet/74F32D-1361539.html
I ordered 1 of these from mouser> http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?R=SN74F32Dvirtualkey59500000virtualkey595-SN74F32D >
it seems to match the part # referenced on utsource - if it doesn't work I'm going to order the one from utsource.

I'll post results when the part gets in. If anyone has anything to add here please feel free.

It was not a board issue, it was a gun issue. I did...something...to the gun wiring to make it work with both boards. If I had to make a wild guess, I believe it had to do with splicing a second gun input into one of the board connectors. I wish I could tell you exactly what I did, but it has been years and I no longer have that cabinet. All I can tell you is to study the gun wiring schematics very, very closely. It was a eureka moment when I fixed it . So sorry I can't tell you more.

I can say that I'll likely have to figure it out again someday as I have an Area51/Max force sitting back in the corner and I already bought an area51 board to swap in. Way down the log though.

Thanks for replying, I realized I actually posted this in the wrong thread I meant to hit this one http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=229848&highlight=police+trainer+gun
