So I have for quite awhile had my Pole Position set to Twin Galaxy settings. I found a video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wY8T_nqXJfQ

that showed the settings and doubled checked mine. Today, while perusing YouTube, I saw some Pole Position videos and noted that their cars went to 245mph. I went back to this video, and watched the test at the end, and that car went 245mph. I pulled out the game and rechecked my dip switches, and they match this exactly. When I tried to change it to where the max speed was 225mph, my car topped out at 205mph.....it seems I am constantly losing 20mph somewhere and have no clue where to begin!

Any ideas?

I would check the pot on the gas pedal..Make sure its returning to to the stop when you don't have your foot on it..Sometimes the pot will get dry and bind a little...

The pot is on the pedal assembly, pull the whole assembly out. I believe it's 2 bolts, mine had the same issue but turned out to be some mod someone did with a micro switch and resistor. I Just replaced the whole assembly.

Quite possibly a dip problem. Check your dips (not how they're set, if they're working)

If you check the manual for 9L:
4 5 6
0 0 1 - 225 MPH max
1 0 1 - 225 MPH max
0 1 1 - 244 MPH max
1 1 1 - 244 MPH max

Perhaps switch 5 is stuck off internally? That looks like the only difference between these two speed settings.

That certainly could be the problem. When I flip the 5 position manually, it has a different feel than the others. The others have a 'click' and the 5 position just sort of rolls.

Same problem with my PP

Mine is doing the exact same thing. Wondering if a solution was found outside of hybrid and octane jokes? My next step is to replace the dip switch? Is there a way to test it on the board? Thanks,

Sorry for the late reply, but I have not found a solution yet. All I can assume is that the dip switch is down! If you solve yours, please let me know!

It's just like a normal single pole switch. Test continuity through it in both positions, one position should make and the other position break the connection.

I am having the same issue on two different cpu boards and checked dip sw function good with continuity test.
In test mode, pedal reads 00-8E, practice rank C and extended rank G. Moving 9L-4=On for extended rank H allows car to go 244mph. There could be a code rev difference.

Were you looking for PP2?

PP1 TG settings will give you:
120 Seconds
Laps: 4
Practice Difficulty: "C" Rank
Extended Lap Difficulty: "G" Rank [75 - 51 - 57 - 61]

These are the settings which provide maximum points. See page "1-8" here: https://www.arcade-museum.com/manuals-videogames/P/polepos.pdf. That shows 4 laps.
For a pictographic representation of the dips, see the Aurcade entry for "TG" settings here: http://aurcade.com/games/format.aspx?id=60

And fixed. Seems to be a common issue on power up or pedal initialization.
I made sure my foot was off pedal, put it in test mode and pedal went to 91 or something 8E is obviously not enough.
put back in game mode and can go 244mph again.

On power-up the program sets the actual position as "0". So when you release the gas pedal in game mode, it is possible that max speed is when you release the pedal.
So if the pedal isn't released completly at game initialisation, you will never get to max. speed.

Every time before I turn my Pole Position on, I pull up on the pedal to make sure it's "home". If I don't do this, I only get enough sweep out of the pot where it tops out at 225. I replaced my pot and cable a few years ago, but my guess is the spring is a little tired and it won't take it "home" that last small increment to get full pedal travel. Pulling up on the pedal for me prior to turning on has worked every time.
