Pole Position Training Vid for Blkdog

Update for me this morning: 62,500.
66K or 67K seems so far away.

Also, here are a few random score related observations:
** The final score is sometimes 54,000 and sometimes 54,010. Not sure where the extra 10 points comes from.
** Already been stated, but the manual lists 244MPH as top speed, but occasionally you see 245MPH (Nick's screenshot and John's 63K video).
** The game always rounds total time down to the nearest second when calculating the 200 points per second bonus. Meaning points are rounded up.

That's a GREAT score. I still need to break 64k. I am gonna play this weekend like a mad man! :D I might rebuild my gas pedal. :)

A couple of fun old reads:

great thread. Is the technique for the very sharp turn to quickly downshift/upshift and come inside the track? I hear shift i think but can't see it in video.

I don't shift. I throw the wheel to the left hard and step off the accelerator for a sec.

Then again, I don't have the best score on here at almost 64k so I'd wait for a few others to chime in.

A thread about guys playing with their Poles, debating between using one hand or two, and wanting it recorded to video. I'm kind of glad I don't own this game :D

Good luck to all going for their high scores.

Question (that I suspect I already know the answer to)...

Is the Fuji Course in PPII score the same? Are the two games comparable score-wise?

Yes but it doesn't really "play" the same if that makes sense.

No, the ability to trigger the off road turbo speed indefinitely on PP2 makes much higher scores possible (among some other differences).

PP2 has a setting for "high speed". Richie was the one that taught me how to trigger the high speed event so he's probably best to comment, but to me that's a MAJOR difference between the 2 games. That and the fact that if you go near a car, your speed dramatically decreases in PP2 which is a big difference in gameplay.

You can check out the difference in scoring in the past two Battle of the Arcades:

PP1: http://www.battleofthearcades.net/Game/3/8

PP2: http://www.battleofthearcades.net/Game/2/32

EDIT: Just realized we used Test Track on PP2, so the score comparisons above probably aren't what you are looking for. I'm pretty sure Fuji on PP2 is typically set to an extra lap than PP1, hence you'd have the higher score anyway.

Even if anyone manages to meet or beat that score, he'll still be able to say he set the bar with one hand... while filming with the other and chewing gum while rubbing his tummy with the other hand and mixing up a Sazerac with the other.

I only have two hands and my pole position is broked.

Hey Jeff,

Looking great! Awesome progress in a short amount of time.

I'm assuming you were awarded 4000 for Pole Position and not 1k as it shows in the pic?

Yes, it gave the the full 4K. It was actually counting down and I snapped two pics quick just to get it. This was the second:

These accelerator pots, are so old. I calibrate the gas pedal frequently. Throw it into test mode and make sure the gas pedal is maxing out properly. It makes a difference!

How do you calibrate the pedal exactly? I can't find any info in the manual on this. The self test will give you the hex values, but no adjustments are mentioned. I'm assuming that if the values are not in range then you need to replace the pot?

You have to go pretty far in, but its there, page 43 and 44: http://www.arcade-museum.com/manuals-videogames/P/polepos.pdf

I followed this exactly and was able to get my pedal to max out at around 9D I think. They it was at around 80 before and I couldn't hit top speed.
