Pole Position : the first 16 bit arcade?

Weren't some of the early GORFs stereo?. I thought they had one speaker up top like normal and the other behind the control panel. (louvered panel below monitor).

Not sure if truly stereo, but I had,one of those early cabinets and remember the speaker placement. It had stenciled sides.

Pole Position cockpit not only has stereo sound, it has four channel surround sound. The test mode plays audio noises in the four distinct speakers. Two up front and two behind the seat.
Yeah, old thread, I know.

But I came across this post above.

So Pole Position upright has 2 speakers and Pole Position Cockpit has 4 speakers and both are in Stereo.

KLOV has Pole Position listed as Sound: Unamplified Mono (requires one-channel amp)?

How can KLOV has THIS GAME wrong? What am I missing?

.

Uh, unrelated, but this thread reminded me of something I thought was interesting.
Cinematronics vectors use 12 bits for X and 12 bits for Y, so the vector displays are 4096*4096 making Space Wars the first 4K game. (I think)

It's actually 1024x768, the extra range in the DACs are used to help linearize the charging curve of the caps. Most of the range is actually off screen.

interesting! I stand corrected, harder to tell on a vector screen I guess.
but I'll settle for HD :)
