My ar2 boards just died again, 2 weeks after fixing them....i'd like to install a switcher...is it as easy as putting in a switcher, power it from the light fixture line or another 120v source, and run the +5 and ground right to the board. my lines are already cut at the harness with wires directly soldered to the board.

the star tech journal seems excessive and i want to go with a simple route.

5v, 15amp definately doesnt quite cut it, not sure about 20amp.

make sure the 5volt rail on the new PS is about 25amps (quite common on pc atx type power supplies)

I have been running my sitdown pp with the 10ohm 1/2 watt resistor at R29 for the last year without a problem. If that fails I'll go to the shotgun connecting J7 connector pin 1 to 2 and pin 3 to 6 to remove +5volt adjust function of the board. Like I said so far no issues!

i'm going to try this on a 15amp switcher to see if it will work or not. if 15amps aint enough as a couple of you have said i'll break down and spend the cash on a computer switcher.

question: can i run the switcher off the line that runs the monitor? there are 3 wires, a ground to the monitor frame, a black and a white. does it matter where i put the black and white on the switcher? i'm assuming 1 per tab marked AC?

also then run the field ground from the switcher to something metal in the cab?

ok got it by running it off the monitor line and using .250 quick disconnects to the test points on both boards and its up and running fine at 5v for now. we'll see if this lasts. i popped the 25amp 32v fuse out so no power gets thru to the boards from the ar2s.

only thing i need is to run a wire from the field ground to a metal part correct?
