Picked up a working pole position, brought it home and turned it on and smoke! Can this power board be fixed? (If so can someone direct me to someone who can fix it). If it's not fixable, does anyome know where I can I get a replacement? Final question, do these boards just fry like this, or does it happen because of another problem I need to look into? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the info. So does my board look too fried to repair? If so do you have one for sale? Thanks again.

its repairable. we stock rebuild kits or if you don't want to do it yourself Andrewb here can rebuild them or exchange them i am sure.

Read the post that is referred to in the post I linked. All you need to do is replace the 10 ohm resistor. But you still need to figure out where the break in the wiring or edge connector is happening, or it will fry again once you replace it.

Thanks. I'm pretty new to all this. I can check the wiring and replace edge connector pins, not sure about replacing the resistor though. I can give it a shot. Do you know where I can get the resistor? Thanks again.

Security's ARII rebuild kits are excellent and it's not a super intimidating job if you're up for it. I fried two R29s before I realized that the boards had to be connected when you power em up. If repairs aren't something that interest you contact AndrewB or one of the other Atari guys. They can fix you up.

This actually isn't true. You can power the AR's with no board connected (and this is how you should power them initially, to test them). You just can't have *only* the +5V *or* GND connected, as the current will get forced through the sense resistors, for whichever path is broken.

This typically happens when then pins inside the edge connector don't make solid contact with the PCB, because they're either dirty and/or stretched out (or the connector isn't on all the way).

All you need to do to fix the AR is replace the fried resistor, but you need to figure out where the break is in the wiring, or else it will happen again as soon as you power up the game again.
