If you had to pick one of these cursed beasts, which would you choose?

I have a hard time deciding, Spy Hunter is cooler with the awesome Peter Gunn theme, but is so damn hard once the timer runs out.

Pole Position is more fun to play, but doesn't have the same appeal.

I think I would give Pole Position a slight edge.

Speaking as someone who's had both, pole position. Something about spy hunter... It wasn't as fun at all as I remembered. Although the attract music coming on at the store is something I miss.

Poleposition is plauged with issues. I think Spy Hunter has a better replay personally.

Really the game play in SH is broken. Even the developers recognized that and gave you the timer at the beginning so you can have as many crashes in that time.

I still love the game...

I always found Spy Hunter more fun to play. And the longer you play without getting taken out, the better the music gets. Definitely spent more quarters and tokens on Spy Hunter at the arcades.

Spy Hunter is better because, as at least one other here has said, you get to shoot stuff. Plain and simple. Pole Position is great. The cockpit version was the closest thing to a simulator, to a virtual reality, when it came out than many of us had ever beheld. But, in the end, you're still just driving around in "circles". I don't pay to watch races (foot, horse, auto...) because, after all, they're just going around in circles.

[Note that I do not have a Pole Position, yet, but that I do want one.]

Roadblasters comes to mind as a nicely developed hybrid of SH and PP that is more fun to play than either.

I personally pick Pole Position. The game to me is just perfection. Spy Hunter is a lot frustrating.

Wow, tough call. Spy Hunter is worth about twice as much, if that's any consideration. I have both, and I would say the SH get more play from the kids, while the PP2 gets more play from the "adults".

These are both pretty flaky hardware-wise, which I believe you alluded to, but both can be improved considerably. SH you may want to replace the ribbon cables, and PP you will probably want to do the power mods. I have these mods on my machines, and they've been running solid for quite a while now.

Both games save high scores, but it's especially important on PP, and adds a lot to the game. If the batteries have been removed (which they probably should be) you can install NVRAM in both machines to save the scores.

Ha! Hey, I have SH and wouldn't trade it for a Roadblasters for an extra $500. I'm not insane over Pole Position but I do want it in a cockpit, all issues included. I also want a Road Blasters. It's friggin fun. Taking out those roadside pillboxes at 160mph is a hoot and a half. :001_sbiggrin: Just sayin'.

How about......

........that new game - Pole Hunter! ;)

You're going to make me pick between my cockpit pole position and my cockpit spy hunter? I don't think I could do that. Both are awesome and I love playing both.

Really the game play in SH is broken.

Broken?! Sounds like you're rationalizing the fact that you suck at the game. :) Learn how to play it and you won't think that.

As someone who owns all 3 games, I would definitely NOT say that. I do like RB, but I'd give it up without a moment's thought if I had to choose one of the three to go. OTOH, I don't have a cockpit RB so I suppose you could say I'm comparing apples and oranges.
