No repair needed. Just a question:

My upright Pole Position II has an optic board with a chip on it. This is how everyone I have even seen in a Pole Position is.

The cockpit PPII I just picked up has a different optic board in it. It is smaller with no chip on it - just the optic & a resistor.

Both boards are labeled Atari and appear to be original.

Anyone know what the difference is? Are all the cockpits with this smaller PCB?

Here are photos. The smaller board that is in my cockpit PPII is labeled Atari while the larger board in my PP upright says Atari Pole Position Steering Board.

Both work and seemingly the same but I have to imagine there is some reason for all the extra components (chip, resistors, capacitor) on the larger board?
