I've now encountered this strange bug a half dozen or more times... if I am racing at a high RPM, steer off the road and then back on (during a corner mostly), sometimes I will hear the RPM's twitch a little then go higher and higher regardless of what's going on onscreen.... what I also notice is that while the RPMs are at running high like this, the car will slow down as normal when going off road, but when on road, it will accelerate very quickly, easily hitting 330mph. As soon as I crash, all goes back to normal.

Anyone ever encounter this bug? Anyone know what I can do to rectify it?

Mine does this. I assumed it was normal.

Hmmm...perhaps it is? If so, I am guessing it's a bug that was never squashed before release? It has it's benefits, but I really do listen to the engine sounds when entering and exiting corners so it actually screws with my game.

Yeah... you have to be going like 280-285 or more to get it to kick in... which is difficult to do with the other tracks. I think I've experienced the bug on the Fuji track... but if so, only once or twice at most....the other two tracks are so twisty that you never get going that fast.

Frankly, while I am not too keen on the "bug"... knowing it's "normal" makes me feel better. (sort of like the graphics glitches after your race ends and during the high score segment).
