I sit here in amazement... having played Pole Position II many times since childhood yet never being good enough to go more than a few laps... as I just found out that there is actually an ENDING to Pole Position II! For some reason, I thought you just kept running lap after lap after lap until you eventually get beaten by the clock... nope... you actually FINISH THE RACE!

Again... I had no idea. Stands to reason though.

:D

Yea baby, glad you found the chick waving the flag! Now crank up the difficulty, and put it at 6 laps! Easy to finish on the test track, somewhat difficult at Fugi, a killer at Suzuki, and nearly impossible at Sea Side.. :-D Shall we post scores?

Ok , let me do so:

Just a few minutes ago, PPII, Fugi, high difficulty, 6 laps Yep I am the Ace :-D

when you state "high difficulty" settings what dip switch settings would you be refering to?

I recently finished Seaside track on TG settings and coasted in with a 76K score to boot!

My car exploded at the end .. (love that)

crushed my current #2 placing;

TG settings;

Settings of 8-Toggle Switch on Pole Position II CPU PCB (at 9L for Atari Boards or 9E for Namco Boards)
1 = OFF
2-5 = ON
6 = OFF
7-8 = ON

Settings of 8-Toggle Switch on Pole Position CPU PCB (at 9JA for Atari Boards or 7E for Namco Boards)

1-5 = OFF
6 = ON
7-8 = OFF

Note: The above Dip Switches, when properly designated, will give the following Twin Galaxies Tournament Settings, used for this title;

Preliminary Game Time: 90 Seconds
Preliminary Rank: D
Extended Rank: D [75 - 45 - 55 - 55 - 55]
Number of Laps: 5
Speed: High Speed

Well well, you are the man! I have a hard time with Seaside... Also, I had my settings at "C", but I also go 6 laps. So I changed the dip switches to Twin Galaxies (D, 5 laps) and promptly put up a decent score for Fugi:

But I did not record it, so.. . Anyway I can do better with less beer in the system.. lol

Nice video! Did you lift?? I tend to caress myself through the heavy traffic... And heck yea I cut my teeth on PPI, but at this time, the board is still on the fritz..

I think the explosion is just an effect showing you something because you finished the race. It does not happen in Pole Position I.

I am guessing the explosion is caused by running off the end of the track when it turns right?

NO, if you kick the games ass! not just finish the race either. I have yet to determine how many seconds you need left on the timer to have you car explode waaaay off in the distance.
It did not explode the last time I finished with only lke 5 seconds or so left.

I am going to be video taping my Funspot game play this weekend so I may have a better idea

Will the explosion happen on all tracks or just Fuji?

Well I can confirm that it happpens at the Test Track; just did a 256.32 (75,260 pts) on TG settings and it exploded at the end.

Seaside and Suzuka I cannot finish on TG settings, yet..

And yep, just finished Fugi with a lackluster 1 second left and got no explosive love.....

Seems like to me that you only get the explosion at the end if you don't crash at all during the race- or at least that was my take on it.

Well that would make sense, but I crashed the last lap of my blistering...(cough) race at the Test Track earlier this morning and still exploded at the end.. Though I had like 18 seconds left or something.
