Pole Position...i got it working but steering non responsive

I finally got around to trouble shooting my PP since 2 yrs ago....i bullet proofed it...eveything working great EXCEPT the steering....it has zero response....no tunrning at all....i removed the encoding wheel..wiped it down with 99% alcohol....i removed the couple pcb assembly and cleaned it off...reflowed all of the solder joints on the little board..check continutiy between all solder joints and continutiy from the connector that connects to it to the pins it slips on...everything seems legit....still no steering....could that little resistor on the coupler assembly pcb be bad?...i haven't tested it......EDIT: i do have the 2 blue opto lights...and my resistor tests at 153.5 ohms....no broken traces on board.

So any ideas what to address next?

Do i have to replace that little pcb?..does anyone sell them?...im going to do a search now.

one of the PPs at work was about the same way. when I pulled the optic board out all the sensors were covered in brown sludge. thus, you might just have a dirty optic board.

Cleaned it..it was one of the first things i did

Just because the transmitting side of the opto is working, doesn't mean the receiving/detecting side is.

Your best troubleshooting step is to swap out the opto board with a known good one. Then go from there. If that doesn't fix it, you could have a wiring or possibly game board problem.

I dont have one to swap out...no one i know locally has a pp....i havent found them for sale, online anywhere..do anyone even sell them?

check QuarterArcade or ebay. I don't think the optic boards are the same as Tempest/Championship Sprint, but I used a Tempest one to fix the one side on a Sprint.

Post some close up pics of the one you have. I might be able to help you.

I been trying to load pics all day of this work and for some reason the site isnt letting me post pics..weird..they are the correct size jpegs..i never had a problem before..im not doing anything different than i have before.

The latest on the pp....to give a quick recap (no pun intended) : game comes on and playable but no steering....steering pcb 100% working...so i addressed the pcb...i reseated a chip and turned game back on then no longer got the start up crash sound....screen is now jibberish....at one point i was getting a ram and rom error..i thinkmit was rom 0 and ram 24, errors.

I have removed each socketed chip..lightly filed the legs with 600 grit emery board...reinstered each chips..all legs are fine....for the one chip that did have bad legs i followed adam's onecircuit lesson on machine sockets... .i did reseat and file legs on pcb and video boards...i even reflowed some chips on pcb dealing with the steering.....i have 5.07 on pcb....5.02 on video board....this image is what i have now....i am out of ideas outside of sending it off to get repaired.

Suggestions?
