I just got a pole position today that I do not believe has been turned on in over a year.

The power cord was torn out, so I rigged a cord to plug in just to test. (I didn't hook up the earth groud, that shouldn't matter huh)

Anyway, I have done no real testing, and I didn't take pictures, but I will.

I am starting this thread because one of the ground pins on the main board that has wires running to it from the harness is broken off.

That should be fixed and could be a problem huh? Maybe I will run right back out there and get some pics up.

Common problems on these things are the edge connectors, often people would bypass them and hook directly up to the test points on the pcb's to get a better power connection.

Like lyons said the edge connector is a huge problem...if the screen is blue with garbled graphics then its most likely the edge connector. on both my pp1 and pp2 boards i have the power running right to the video board instead of the edge connector. i am now 2 for 2 on pp boards just by running to the test points, reseating chips and fooling with the edge connector.

Things have definitely been routed to the points on the board.

No blue screen. Barely garbled graphics.

It's more like frozen start up screen, and slightly garbled, with the proper colors showing.

Like I said one of these points where the wiring has been re-routed has broken off, and I need to find a new one to solder into the board, or mickey mouse it a little.

quick update, for what it is worth, I got both of my pp boards working.

And it turns out 1 of them is a pp2 board.

Basically I did what frizz did to his. I wired a loop on the test points of both boards in each set. And I ran the ground and +5 wires to a switcher. Now I have 2 perfectly working boards. PP1 and PP2.

I've seen with my PP1 that the connections to the capacitor come loose and I have to torque them down with a screw driver. Not sure if that follows suit to everone elses PP1 & PP2

That is very strange i thought normally they just were supposed to blow up or catch on fire when you dropped a coin in the slot :)

It's great to hear about a working PP boardset!

NOW... remove the battery and fix the corrosion or it'll continue to eat things.

I cut the batteries off of both boards, and wiped them carefully with a clean cloth. How should I clean these in case there is battery corrosion?
