Pole Position Dump Find to Pi Position

Thanks John. Unfortunately my original Harness is so damaged I can't get 5v continuity from the pcb to either 9 pin connector so I need to contemplate my way forward.

By the way, did you make that Pole Position side drawing? Really nice work.

Yes I made that drawing in Fusion 360. I haven't had anyone verify it but it's probably not too far off.

Should be easy to help with pics of where you have harness chops.
Following wire colors and their terminations actually makes it understandable.
Buy the mates for those connectors and pins and the proper crimping tool and it will be easy to sort out.
I just contacted the guy who sold me the non-Pole Position harness and he is checking to see if he can get me the correct one. If that doesn't work out I will explore using the hacked up harness that I have. I had the impression that you couldn't get the correct pins for the connectors anymore...

Nice. Did you happen to make drawings for the rest of the cabinet?

There was a website I just looked but they don't seem to have the plans. Somebody out there's got to be able to get this going for you. But you know at the same time honestly, I'd rather find this than even get a working arcade one up. This has more value even as it stands

I totally agree.

Thanks for your input Bobby.

I would definitely work with original hardware but I've already got an external audio amp and switching power supply ready to go. I thought I had a good wiring harness but instead I've got a hack-job. I also don't have AR boards.

I have downloaded the schematics and will be trying to better understand them.

Stay safe in Hawaii. We're having fires in British Columbia too.

I am assembling a Pole Position right now and just got the power situation going.

AndrewB can sell you two AR boards. It will plug right into that wiring harness and work just fine.
No special schematic hack job needed...And the raster power brick WITH the isolation transformer can be acquired as well. The harness will go right into that.
Its much easier to do it the easy way and plug in original boards in this case. I have like 5 spare switchers on my bench..brand new....and I use them in games where I only need to deal with power...and in games where the iso transformer is separated out. In Atari, things are bundled all together...so using the originals is best. I have rebuilt my Asteroids AR boards (dont work in Pole Position) several times now and its not hard at all. I have spares even.

If you do this, you have original equipment. The Pi Position plugs right into this same harness. It is what it is designed to do.

I understand you have an audio amp, etc, but if you intend to use old Pole Position hardware, its advisable to get the whole package. If you want a modern day bench setup, then treat it as a desktop computer. The Raspberry Pi and software used here is pretty flexible in that regard...its just Mame.

I agree. I just wanted to get something operational with gear I already had to encourage me to keep going on the Pole Position. Trouble is the harness that I have already has been hacked apart. I need a good harness before I can do much of anything...

I have a spare harness that is in so so shape. Not hacked to pieces but there are a few cut wires. Doesn't look too bad. There is a guy online who can make a repo harness and does excellent work. Super nice person. Forgot the name but will look it up and let you know.

Interesting. Thanks!
