Yeah... expect a few of these. I've got a few more sets to dig through and hopefully fix.

Anywho, got another CPU board here was missing all sounds minus the engine. Replaced the 117 PROM and got explosion/tire squeals, and voices back. Also got a little something for the other sounds... I get clicks and static where the other sounds should be. The clicks/static pulse with the music when there's supposed to be music, and the tree sound when that's going on... so, it's atleast try'ng, it's just not getting what it needs to get have to get the job done.

I've checked everything in the sound circuits that I could see would be causing an issue... nothing's checked out to be what I'm looking for.

Also, PLEASE don't hijack these threads... I will post everything I try and post of what eventually fixes the problem. I feel like I'm having to do this because some of the other PP sound issues threads get hijacked about halfway through and end up being useless... not to mention most of them don't have any resolution... I guess the people either fix them then never post about it, or just send them to Dick.

I know my threads are a little tedious, but I just want to make sure I show everything that I'm doing and what, if anything, eventually fixes the problems.

There is nothing tedious about a thread that has good technical data and descriptions of everything done that leads up to a resolution. Way too many dead end threads.

Did you look at the LM324'S?

+1

any resolution to this problem?

(Hope 2 years and 24 days was enough time for a resolution:001_sbiggrin:)

Actually, with this board I never did figure out the problem.

I still have it laying around here somewhere and I have been meaning to go back and work on my other PP sets.

But, sorry... no resolution with this one yet. :(

I just fixed a similar problem with a solution I haven't seen on here...

When testing R207, R208 and R171, the all read as 0 ohms, but when I disconnected the end connected to the LM324 @ 12M, they tested fine. I replaced the 12M chip and my engine sounds are loud and clear!

I am still missing the explosion sounds, so back to it.

Replaced the 117 PROM and got explosion/tire squeals, and voices back.

Questions about the missing explosions:

I see a chip marked 117 @ 7L - is this what you are refering to?

Can I burn a replacement PROM, or where do I buy these things?

My machine produces voices, but they are a bit crackely - could this chip be the problem with the explosions?

thanks

I honestly don't remember much about the problem. I still have a few sets of boards and as I was working on DigDug I was looking through them for customs... but I'll probably get around to working on them when I get the room cleaned up a little more. Pole Position is behind about 3 other machines right now because of a broken water pipe above my arcade room. Everything is all piled up on one side and I can't even get to most of my machines right now.

Once the pipe is fixed and everything is cleaned back up I'll get the cabinets moved back to where they belong I'll try to start using my working video and CPU boards to fix the other boards.

Original Pole Position sounds fixed!
Replaced 7L with a socket & PROM-117 fixed all sounds except for the voice:
"Prepare to Qualify"
Replaced MC14066 with chip & socket at position 11M.
All sounds present and operating properly.
