Pole Position Cockpit Topper Revisited

I can take mine in to get a quote on the panel. Cant be that much, its pretty simple.
Die punched holes & powder coated :)

Who is gonna print the artwork for these things?

Really though, if anyone of you arm chair guys wants to find me the exact font for the speed signs, be my guest. I've gone thru about 100 of them. This is the closest I could find in my library. It seemed the 'one' from most every font I tried always has a serif platform on the bottom, or the top hooks too much.

Like I said, happy to help if you're interested though I fully understand if you're not. For the speed signs, this one isn't exact but it's a good starting point and easy enough to modify the numbers slightly to match:

For the upper left corner "Pole Position" text, it looks like a slightly modified Helvetica condensed bold in the original. Tough to say for sure without the original hi res art to go from.

Hey Phet,
I know a cracker that has an original panel on his pole position cockpit and can make the metal panels that your overlay would stick on :)

Tell cracker to help a brother out. Then smack the bitch for me.

Have you actually read the thread sir? That's what this guy is referring to:

Haha, will do....I'll see about getting a quote next week....

Looking back at the original thread about these. I noticed that Brents sign is different than mine. His looks like a sticker, mine is silk screened on. My part number is stamped on the metal in white, his is on the image. Does anybody know what most of them were?

Here is a picture of the mine that Phet is using the scan of.

Here is Brents, notice the differences.

yes I have read it, plenty of posts critiquing the artwork to get it nuts on...I dont see a clear picture of the bracket or any dimensions posted or how it mounts to the cabinet...I may have missed it I guess?

To mount it, you take off the top bracket of the rear window. You slide the sign under the bracket. It uses the same screws, it takes about five minutes to install.

Yeah, and pictures of his is what I was working from for the first rendition. Note the colors seem much deeper and darker on Brent's? Size is a bit different too, as yours seems shorter overall.

Also, look at the drop shadows on the tracks. His is 50-70% opacity black, yours is 100% baby blue. No wonder my first repro had that black drop shadow, I knew I saw it somewhere.

Mine is 21.750" X 16.00" (W x H)

It's not as bright blue as that picture I took. It's in between the two. The last update you posted is close in color, maybe needs to be a shade or two darker over all. But, not as much as Brents. Mine almost looks like a old porcelain gas sign, it's that shiny. My blue color is a little darker than the side art blue. If I take a picture of mine with no flash it looks just like Brents, too dark. Ill mess around and try and get a picture of the right color. The track shadow isn't black. It's the same blue as the rest of the sign.

Tooz, do you have a side and back shot for approx angle of the bracket and how big is the lip that lands ontop of the cab?

Thnx B.

So, has it been elevated from these are getting printed as decals to

exact repro, metal bent and powdercoated, then silk screened? Ha..

I'd have a hard time NOT buying that, if it was done. It would look almost as good as having an actual working PP game.

So, how's it looking, speed font looking better? I used the collegiate font but had to do a lot of tweaking to get it to look right. The "FUJI SPEEDWAY" font was drawn by me from scratch. I fixed the track rounding at the bends and fixed the legend font. I think getting the car drawn and then a few more placement tweaks and it should be finished.

Phet, it looks absolutely phenomenal. You've done an awesome job. I WILL BUY (but I'm sure you could have guessed that). Just a thought... If you could get a really high res scan of that car maybe you could drop it in as a raster object? Before all the vector snobs start flaming me, I'm just thinking it's a small object to begin with and very hard to draw with vectors. Maybe if the scan is high res enough no one would be able to tell the difference. Then again if you want to vector it that would be awesome as well. Just trying to provide a practical alternative if that's what it takes to get this done. :)
