Pole position cockpit- non working

Why don't you just quote the number.? This is how VAG (and perhaps Exidy) keeps track of pricing and is able to maintain an accurate database of prices.

The lowest number in this thread is $300.
So you talked him down from $2500 to $300?
Wow, you got game. LOL

Yes $300, my approach was correct and he came right out and said he was just throwing numbers out there, make an offer. So I did 😁

Looks like you're missing the rear plexi? Szabo has replacments:

That was my next question, awesome thank you. - Ordered
Some more pics because this is the internet, it's hot out here. We had an amazing spring down here and it stayed cool much longer than usual. That is over now so this fella will be cleaned and detailed then moved inside to the AC. Any major work will wait until winter when the garage is more pleasant.
The wife heard me playing it so she wanted a spin, loves it.

Send the AR's to @andrewb for a rebuild.

Then I'd refresh/rebuild the power brick following @jacklick YouTube videos.

Also get the F3 fuse holder mod done.

FIRST THING TO DO IMMEDIATELY:

Make sure that the fan(s) works. Consider adding additional fans. You need those PCBs cooled for realsies. Heat is what typically destroys these wonderful machines.

Good point. I replaced all my fans with AC Infinity fans. They work great.

AC Infinity AXIAL 1238W, Muffin Fan, 120V AC 120mm x 38mm High Speed, for DIY Cooling Ventilation Exhaust Projects https://a.co/d/i5o0DDV

And grab a speed control to quite the fan as needed.

Murphy's Oil Soap and a scrub brush. Start from the top, work your way down. Then clean with fresh water.

It does an amazing job removing nicotine and smoke.

If it's really bad, I use Windex. Spray, wipe as it strips the crud off. Really good at getting the crud with a scrub brush in use, out of the grain of Asteroids games. You just keep spraying, scrubbing and wiping until the paper towels stop turning brown or tan.

I know the fan in the door works, my first order of business this morning is figuring out how to remove the plexiglass so I can wipe the screen and then replace it with new. It looks like there is some minor damage to one side of the monitor bezel as well.
Cosmetically the bottom 5" all the way around is the worst. I'm debating on taping it off and doing a black stripe all the way around,
Thanks for all the suggestions, I'm going to try and get it in the AC tomorrow at the latest.

Let's see pics of the bottom. And if you're gonna do a color, why not white or an off-white that kind of matches the vinyl? I did that when I touched mine up and if you look closely, in the right light, you can tell the sheen is slightly different, but from a short distance away, it really looks good. I'm not sure why you would go black though.

I thought of that but being so hard to match I figured the black would make a nice accent and match the other black areas.

Thanks for the picture, that looks pretty clean..do you still have the color code?
I don't, but likely it was just a rustoleum antique white or some similar off the shelf color. Should be pretty easy to find one that'll match whatever shade of sunfade or nicotine your machine has. And I guess if I had to choose a different color to paint a bottom stripe on the cockpit, it would probably be the blue from the sky in the artwork.

If you can find a piece to remove around the size of a quarter, most paint shops can match it for you now if they have the device. Even my local Ace Hardware in a small town of <10,000 has one of those devices.

Sometimes game OEMs used extra laminate inside the game (they did on my Tail Gunner 2) so if you can find something inside, take the chip there.

I'm off to Ace to get a new piece of plexiglass, power cord and a few other things. I'm gonna grab some sample sheets and hold off on the side art for now.
It's not gonna get worse so it can wait. My 2 biggest issues are the random reboot and the screen appears about 1.5" smaller than the actual monitor.

Random reboot: Check your power and your edge connectors. A corroded edge connector can cause resistance to go up as the connection heats, and then you hit the tipping point and the game dies.

Horizontal and vertical sizing will help with the game size.

Can't you just polish out the plexiglas? I had to sand my Tail Gunner 2 one which had a nasty gouge with 1000 grit sandpaper, then follow with Novus 3, 2 and 1, and it came out great.

I polished it on a flat quartz countertop while it rested on a clean towel.

Thanks I'll get after the edge connector. I have to get a closer look at the monitor pots at first glance I didn't see any labels. Ace will cut me a new piece for $20 and this one is pretty scratched up and yellow.

Both literally, and, figuratively! :3:

You're lucky you have a G07 in there - should be a relatively easy repair monitor-wise.

As @KaBoom1701 said earlier, one of the first things to focus on should be the power brick. Highly recommended to either clean up or replace the fuse block, and SOLDER the wires to it, especially for F3. Can't stress that enough.

I went chasing reset issues on my PP cockpit for some time and it all came back to that. From what I read, PP draws so much current that the quick-disconnects eventually can't keep up and you end up with heat and failure. Mine runs a lot cooler and is very solid since I finally did that mod. Not saying that's your problem, but at minimum, it's good preventive maintenance.

Ha - just found the thread where he proved that it's important:

I believe mine has that done, but I will take a close look at the work done.
