I have been working on my Pole Position lately (original PP cab, working PPII boardset). Just fixed up the pedal so that the cable is wound properly (can actually get some speed in the game now!), fixed the lights in the coin slots, other misc little cosmentic things. Also put a different monitor in it recently, to replace one that had been giving me problems for the last few years. Game is looking pretty good and working well (at the moment at least!), and so now I am "into" the game again, and want to keep working on cleaning it up.

One thing that looks pretty bad is the cardboard bezel. It is complete, but it sags at the top, and is somewhat warped on the sides. Would love to replace it, but I know they are difficult to come buy. So I was wondering if anyone has tried to make a new one from scratch? I have never done anything like this.. so wondering if anyone else has and has had good results. Or any other alternatives/suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks!

This may help a little:
I have/had 2 PP cabs, and one cardboard bezel had a 1/4" x 1/4" x 14" long stick taped to the back of the bezel to hold the sag from occurring. It works really well. Someone did it before I got the game. The other bezel does not have it, and it looks like crap and sags into the screen.

Just a thought to make yours playable.

If I can, I will try to shoot a pic or two later tonite.

My brother created a reproduction of the cardboard bezel. It came out great, and I currently have one on my upright. I can post pics if interested.

I made one from scratch quite a few years ago. It honestly was not that difficult and came out nice.

IIRC, I bought some nice, heavy black poster-board style stock at a crafts store. I carefully took apart the original, traced it onto the new stock, cut it out and assembled. It was sturdy as heck and looked great.

Take the old one out, trace it, mark where the bends are and bend it. Shouldn't be any harder than making a paper airplane.

Thanks for all the tips guys. I had considered taking the existing one, taking it apart and tracing the parts to make a new one... but was hesitant just in case I screwed it up and would then be stuck with nothing.

For those of you who offered to post pics of the replacements you have made, please do when you have a chance (no rush at all).

Thanks!

I used a metal coat hanger and packing tape looks great add a fresh coat of paint and looks like new

I did something similar to this, except I kept the original cardboard together. I bought some black foam board from the craft store and cut out pieces and spray glued it to the outside of the original bezel. It made it incredibly solid and straightened out the sags. I then repainted the whole thing with a semigloss black and it looks pretty good.
