Pole Position 2 front plate hole. To bondo or bondon't?

Hi!

My Atari Ireland Pole Position 2 has a big gaping hole in the front plate that I need to fix somehow. The plate is made of particle board. Can this be fixed with a combination of replacement wood and bondo, or should I just find a new plate and apply my virgin sawing skills? Any tips for good results?

Cheers,
Arch

I would bondo that in. but on the inside/back side, I would reinforce it with some sheet metal slightly larger than the hole screwed into the wood or something.

Same thought. Depending on your ideology around restoring games:

1) If you need to keep it original, screw a thin piece of wood or panelling to the back side that completely covers the hole. If oyu have some small scraps of wood glue them in the hole to the panelling you've attached to help fill the hole a bit. Fill hole with bondo, sand and paint.

2) Use that piece clamped to another piece of MDF and route a new piece.

Much grateful, guys. I will have to repair a few other dents and one corner on the cab, so I think I will go with the bondo option then. :) Might as well, when I have that nasty toxic stuff polluting the air anyway.

i would used a 4" hole saw and round that out. ( cut a hole in a scrap piece first, then clamp that piece over the cave entrance you have there , to use the scrap piece as a cutting guide.) find a particle board of similar thickness and cut a 4"hole from that to use as a glue in plug and finish up with filler. thats to big of an area to just fill with bondo.

I would cut a new piece.

Go and buy a trim router hand held from Harbor Freight, and a flush trim bit with a bearing on top. Use the old piece as a guide to trim a new piece with the exact shape of the old one. Be super careful, routers are dangerous, but once you do it a couple of times, will be a great skill for cabinet repair.

Finally someone else with an Irish Pole Position 2! Mine is in pretty bad shape, thinking about getting a new cab built for it. If you happen to have a spare upper Marquee bracket, I'm in need of one.
